If you need to start your Honda generator and it wont start with a minimum amount of pulls I have found that a good way to accomplish starting the Honda is to blow fairly hard on the filler neck of the gas tank.
Use a fair amount of pressure and let it off very carefully so you don't have a gas blow back.
Doing the above might just get you out of a sticky situation when you need a generator in an emergency.

Its funny how just a few years ago everyone was fighting over the "if its a trailer you have to put trailer tires on it" topic. This still takes place all over other forums. It is a really hot topic right now on a boating forum that I am a member of. I suggested to a fellow that was having problems with Carlisle boat trailer tires to see if he could find LT tires and stated I had almost exclusively switched over to them on my trailers. You would think I called George Washington a Communist, holy cow did I get an earful over that.
Yea, but you're one of the few that can laugh all the way to the tire store. You might even be able to laugh all the way to the bank with the money you've probably saved by not having blowouts that can tear up your trailer.

If you want to find out where your tires were made, go to this site and follow the directions.
The last four numbers in the DOT code (only on one side of the tire) is the week and year the tires were made, (2207 would be the 22nd week of 2007). If you have a three digit code the tires were made before 2000.

They probably run on 12V battery power so you can extend them if you want when stoping overnight.
If you have more info on what brand trailer you have it would be helpfull. All slides are not created equal.
Some slides are operated by hydraulics and some are 12V electric.
The ones that are hydraulic are also operated by 12V battery power.

We go to FL for the winter and stay for 6 months, then we go to NY and stay for another 6 months, during this time we have never run the slides in or out.
I'm a firm believer in things wearing out if they are overused, there's only so many in and out movements of the slides and after you reach that number you're going to have problems and a repair bill.

We currently have an '06 37' SKCL Cypress 5th wheel, it's our second Newmar they are very well built units and we have not had any leaks in the roof at all.
Our first Newmar was a MountainAire (picture of it in our sig) 40' triple axle 5th wheel.
Our current Cypress is actually 40' 8" in overall length and uses the same heavy 12" I beam frame as the first one did.

RE: camping at the grand canyon

When we stayed on the south rim a few years ago there was a RV park right at the Grand Canyon, we went up through Williams, AZ if I remember correctly.
You will have to make reservations early for the RV park. Don't forget to watch those kids of yours like a hawk when you go sightseeing at the Grand Canyon, it's a long way down in some places.

Let's face it Ol' FastEagle is a proponent of the ST tire industry. His view will never change. By his own admission, he has gone through 21 ST tires on his 2003 model rig. Talk about burying your head in the sand or maybe a large pile of ST tires.
The true facts are that when most here are having ST tire problems and they change to a quality LT tire, their tire problems go away with the ST tires. Michelin, BF Goodrich, Bridgestone, Firestone or Goodyear, all make and sell good quality LT tires. Some of these even carry a 6 year warranty.
CASE CLOSED!!!!!

Let me add, what about the "All Position LT Tire"? I believe they are made to go in any position, even the trailer position.

If these guys can ge a dead weight motorcycle carrier to work on a TT, then certainly one of those swivel wheel trailers should be doable.

Before you buy one of those swivel wheel trailers you should make sure it's legal to tow double behind a TT. Some states will not allow you to tow double on 2 ball hitches. Make sure it's legal for each state you want to travel in or through.
I wanted to do just that with our 5th wheel but found it wasn't legal in NY, PA, and most of the rest of the east coast states including FL where we go for the winter.
The swivel wheel trailer falls into the category of 2 trailers in some states.

Bringing Bell Express south for the winter?

I have a friend from NS who has Bell Express for his TV service.
If he brings it south with him for the winter will it work in FL?
What are the legal ramifications if he brings it with him and uses it here in the States?
If this is in the wrong thread, please move it.

How high are you talking here? I ask because I've seen 250HP 466's go over 300,000 hard miles in semi tractors used for delivering beer & soda, which is pretty brutal use.
The DT466 in a wrecker where Liz works is closing in on 1,000,000 miles since its last IFO...IIRC, it's 200HP.
All I can say about the bearing issue is when I read the maintenance schedule on the DT466 motor it said to change the bearings at 150-175,000 miles. When I asked about the bearing change, I was told it had to do with the length of the crankshaft (there wasn't enough length to allow bearings of enough width) for a longer TTOH on the higher HP motors.
Some of those motors that have high miles on them could be needing a bearing change and the maintenance people might not know it.....yet.
Again this only pertains to the higher HP motors, some of the people in charge of maintenance might not even know about the bearing change requirement and that could be why some motors are still using the old bearings.
The maintenance schedule said what HP you had to change the bearings on but I can't remember what it was.

I have driven a few International trucks over the years that have had the DT-466 engine in them.
Pretty good engine overall. Reliable, and powerful. (depending on HP rating)
If I were searching for a truck, I would not hesitate to buy a truck with a DT-466.
There is a drawback to the DT466 in the higher HP ratings. When International designed this motor they didn't allow enough length in the crankshaft department and because of this you will have to roll new bearings on to the crankshaft about every 150,000-175,000 miles.
This only pertains to the higher HP engines, and again they might be using better made bearings now and you might not have to replace the bearings as often.

I wish Cat would make a pickup-sized engine... I've been seriously thinking about my next truck and the possibility of building a diesel from the ground up, just like we do building hot rods. Put it in an older body and you register it as the year truck body you have, including emissions.

That's exactly what I did in 1994 with the TV I have now. So far (knock on wood) I've got a little over 90,000 trouble free miles on the conversion. This TV used to have a V8 366 big block gas motor and 5sp stick trans with a 5.29 rear gear.

If you switch from the 16" tire to the 17.5" tire like I did last year you will have no more worries about tire troubles.
The 17.5 tire is the same width as the 16" tire and it's actually 1/4" in outside diameter smaller than the 16" tire, I know that's hard to believe but it's true.

I made the swap as soon as we got the new trailer home from KY (to northern NY about 800 miles) so my comparisons are limited.
Nothing seems to move around inside the trailer, in fact if I leave a plastic glass on the counter it's still there when we stop.
I do have a MorRyde link between my springs and the trailer does have shocks on all four wheels.
I think it rides better than our old trailer with triple axles (picture in sig). Our new trailer is a 2006 Newmar Cypress.

Have tried to search and can not find what the proper wheel lug nut torgue should be. I have 8 lug, 9/16 lugs with Aluminum wheels. At one time I saw a post someone had on here with the specs but darn if I can find it now.
I have the same setup you do with Aluminum wheels and my torque for the lug nuts was 110'#. My unit had 8 bolts with 9/16" studs and also had Goodyear G614 tires with a "G" rating.
I have since upgraded to Aluminum 17.5" wheels and Goodyear G114 tires with an "H" rating. Now I use 140'# of torque on the lug nuts.
