RE: Black tank valve won't close all the way!

First thing to try is to fill your tank with water when you are connected to a dump/sewer. Then let the water water out all at once. Try that a couple of times. The rush of a large amount of water sometimes works to clear the debris in the valve. If for some reason the seals have become crimped, you will have to remove and repair. Sidney

RE: What do you call the windows that crank open with a handle

You will find it very difficult to find jalousie windows for RV's. Jalousie's are used primarily in homes. The windows you will find are Louvered or as spelled out below, TORQUE windows from the largest RV window mfg....HEHR * Jalousie windows – Used in the '50s and '60s in such units as the Trillium ultralight. While they provided good ventilation and would shed rain because of their slope, making them popular in verandas in warm climates, the lack of a seal between panes meant that weather tightness and energy efficiency were low. * Crank Windows - Hehr, one of the leading American manufacturers of RV windows, calls these "Torque" windows, though this does not appear to be a brand name. A modern refinement of the jalousie. ALL my Flat Rate books call them Jalousie, when we built them and installed them they were called Jalousie, and when we order for replacement, they are called Jalousie:B Doug Perhaps you could provide a source for jalousie windows for RV's. Maybe one of your previous suppliers. HEHR who is probably the largest mfg of windows for the recreational vehicle industry describes them as Torque or louvered. I have had HEHR torque windows on every RV I have owned since 1972 including 3 airstreams, an Avion and our current Excel. There are many people reading this so I welcome any links to jalousie windows for 5th wheel, TT or motorhomes. I believe that I answered the OP's question adequately with my first post. Sidney

RE: Any Damage from Bad Power?

Hughes Autoformer for about 15 years after problems with AC due to low voltage. We also use an inexpensive AC Voltage monitor that plugs into AC outlet.

RE: Tires rubbing underside of trailer

I had a similar issue. Dropping the axles to the bottom hole resulted in about 2 inches higher and adequate clearance. The other issue is to carry the correct pressure in the tires. If the tires are underinflated they will squat and can cause the rubbing you describe. Sidney

RE: Milepost-Best price?

Just ordered the 2010 Milepost from Amazon $19.95. No shipping if you order $25.00. If you paid $19.95 (actually $19.77) at Amazon, you ordered the 2009 edition. The new one at Amazon has been $29.95 since it became available. The site ALLBOOKSTORES.COM compares the best prices found on the internet and returns the results. It can change from day to day as merchants change their prices. If you click the link, today there are even lower prices than yesterday. Anyone wanting to get the best price currently available on any book on the internet should check it out. Sidney

We also had many Javelina's come around our site. It is a very good park and the observatory is great to visit. Sidney

Are you certain that you don't already have one? Almost all newer trailers come with automatic changeover regulators when fitted with dual propane cylinders. Sidney

RE: emptying a porta potty

A real porta-pottie is not very expensive and has the advantage of being sanitary, odor free, and easy to empty into toilet or dump station.

RE: Upset with costs in Texas. What to do.

I presume that part of the difference in insurance is that "fulltimer's" insurance does cost more. I am a bit surprised that you chose to make that move without learning all the details. Nothing that you described is a secret. Sidney

RE: New Zealand

We spent a year RV'ing in NZ about 20 years ago. We did not rent, but we did buy an ex-rental unit which we sold after a year for more than we paid for it. New Zealand is spectacular with some of the friendliest people on earth. If you have enough time you might consider buying a used unit and sell it when you are ready. NZ does not have the same type of depreciation that we have here. There are web sites in NZ that you can search for RV's. For small campers and tent camping, many, if not most campgrounds have cooking facilities with pots and pans etc. There is almost always HOT water for tea in some type of urn. Sidney

RE: RV Catalog From RV Shops??

There are at least two major national distributors that create those catalogs. Stag-Parkway is one, Coast Distribution is the other. They do not sell retail or direct to consumer, wholesale only. Sidney

RE: Crank-out windows

You are wise to get windows that crank out. You may search for HEHR Torque windows. They are very good and allow ventilation when it is raining where as slide windows do not. Sidney

I wish they would all install meters so I could pay for what I use. I for one do not like paying for anyone else. Sidney
