RE: CHANGE TO SYNTHETIC IN ALLISON

Since my last post I have talked with my local transmition repair and he said that he attended an Alison Repair school. The Alison Tech said that Amzoil was a better product, but it costs more ???????

CHANGE TO SYNTHETIC IN ALLISON

I am thinking of changing to synthetic in my 5 speed allison. I would like some thoughts about this from people that have done this. My MH has 52k on it.

Need Help with Cruise Control on Patriot

Not much info yet, but a friend is having some trouble with his. I am trying to help, but have not diagrams. Wonder if there is someone with experience in the matter. It appears to work some of the time, but after the RV is driven for awhile it quits all together and won't reset.

RE: Anyone use a retarder on a gasser?

I have a workhorse chassis. A gear vender would be nice, but I could see the biggest advantage to a gear vender would be keeping the engine RPM's in a happy place going up the hill as opposed to going down the hill where some auxiliary braking would be of benefit. Thanks to all. I hope tht even though I am no closer to getting a transmition retarder (buhu :( ) that others may have benefited from this topic

RE: Anyone use a retarder on a gasser?

I appreciate all the comments, but not sure that some understand what a transmition retarder is. What I am talking about is not a Jake Brake......it is not an Exhaust Brake.......it is a Transmition Retarder. However, it is probably going to cost more than this poor boy can or is willing to spend. I am, however going to flush the fluid and use the best grade of fluid that I can find.......what ever that is. In my situation the turns were too many and too fast, even with gearing down and using all the methods described, the brakes over heated.

RE: Anyone use a retarder on a gasser?

harkawy ...........I drive exactly the way your describe. On this day we were comming down hwy20, heading toward Sweet Home OR. The grade was steep and curvy and the traffic was stacking up behind me and the curves were many and I WAS using my brakes as you say. Finaly at the bottom there was this big clear area where logging trucks get weight, so I pull off to let the traffic by ( same to you sucker ) at which time I applied some brakes. Guess WHAT ? no brakes not even a tinny bit I coasted to stop. If this had happened a couple of turns back ??????? you would not have this post to reply to. I ain't going that way to Eugene any more !!!!!!!!!

RE: Anyone use a retarder on a gasser?

Luke........I am not trying to be smart with you, so thanks for the advice on down grades, but I want to install a transmition retarder or one on the drive shaft. Others have said that they are very effective and will save on the cost of replacing brakes often.
