If you'll find a way to hold the OTD awning in the toatlly extended position, I used a 5gal. bucket tied to the old strap and put water in it till it stayed in that position. Got on a ladder and used a countersink drill at the end of the slot where the strap fits into. You might also need a straight drill +- 3/8" to get a little deeper, just don't drill into the roller. Then with a needle nose plier slide the old strap to the hole and grab hold of the rubber insert and pull it out. I now have the window awning and both slide topper awnings dirlled the same way. Takes about 5 min/awning.
