Just bought one and it works great. This is a BlueTooth device and you can just place this credit-card size GPS on the dash with no wires. The internal battery last about 10 hours and comes with both a 12 volt and 110 volt charger. You do have to have a BlueTooth enabled computer or buy the USB device or a PCMCIA card. So far I really like it. Very quick at getting the current position.

Thanks, Chuck. I have an Earthmate GPS and think that something in my set up (GPS or Street Atlas software) is taking a lot of computer cycles to run. How does yours respond at start-up, during the time that the GPS is acquiring satellites? I've watched my GPS status screen so I can see that is what is going on and the laptop is very tied up and won't respond to anything else. I would worry about the bandwidth being shipped via wireless to and from the GPS in your setup. Do you know the rate that you are using? How fast of a processor do you have?
It sounds like a great idea and I'm interested.

I turned on the GPS, started Street Atlas 9, and initialized the GPS. It took less than 60 seconds total to start acquiring satellite data. Unfortunately inside my house it is difficult to get the satellites. When I tried it in the camper it was almost instantaneous to get 3D. I have a Dell Inspiron 4100 which has a 1.0gHz processor and 256mb RAM. Nothing special.

I moved the GPS to my screen room so now it is 23ft away from the computer. The signal meter that show the strength betweenthe computer and the GPS show "too weak" but works fine,
I have 3D. Distance is supposed to be up to 10 meters(30ft). This weekend I even covered the yellow device(poor choice of color) with other items and it still worked. They say that you can put it on the back shelf of a car if you need to.

I originally purchased the Delorme Earthmate with the USB connection for my laptop. When I decided to try the Pocket PC route, this created a problem...no UBS port. I bought Delorme's BT cradle for the Earthmate with their battery and charging/power cables.
The BT cradle works great with my BT equipped iPaq...look ma! No wires! Connections are just as fast as the USB as far as I can determine.
