RE: Ford V 10 Question

For $370 you can buy the whole Timesert kit and do it yourself-----and have inserts left over. Heli-coils have been known to blow out themselves in this application------the Timesert is a lot stronger setup.

RE: Air intake systems on DP cummins

I suspect your Banks kit added boost, therefore the original filter AND hoses may be too small for your new CFM needs.
:)
If the banks system really added 115 hp (and you spend much time at wide open throttle), you need at least a third more air. And if the Banks kit didn't provide a different turbo, I would have some concerns about turbo life.
the banks kit is a fuel managment kit but also lets the turbo spool up to 36-37 lbs so about 6-7 over stock.I only drive about 3500 miles per year
Well, I don't think that going from 30 to 36 lbs of boost will give you 33% more power. It will, however, over speed your turbo by 20% from it's original design parameter.
If you blow out your air cleaner or hit it against something once too often and cause a leak, your turbo will shortly stop pumping even 30 lbs boost (about the same time your engine starts using oil)!! :E

RE: Monaco Shinoda Design? What is it?

After Bunkie Knudsen and Larry were fired from Ford, they started the Rectran MH operation. Then Knudsen got hired as CEO of White Motor. Larry became the Design VP. In addition to trucks, White Motor owned the Oliver, Minneapolis-Moline, and Cockshutt farm machinery companies. I was a relatively young project engineer at Minneapolis-Moline at the time.
Management decided to merge the 3 farm machinery companies into one-----White Farm Equipment. The project I was responsible for became the first tractor with "White Farm" on it and with very new and different styling. I got to make several trips to Detroit as the styling was worked out. When Larry learned I had a 427-435 hp Corvette, we became friends quickly.
When he showed me some sketches of his proposed tractor styling, it looked like an Indy race car. I started chocking over thoughts of farmers accepting the style and the lack of of adequate radiator space, but couldn't say much as Larry was a lot of pay-grades above me. Larry could read my face and said, "Relax, that's not the one I really want, that's just the one to soften up my bosses and marketing people." He had another sketch that was both stylish and practical.
The VIP's showed up and he showed them the first one. Their pay-grades were closer to Larry's and they voiced their concerns. Larry looked disappointed and finally brought out the 2nd sketch. Everyone was relieved and said they thought that one was great. I was in the back of the room, and Larry just looked at me and smiled!!
He was not only a great stylist, he was also a real character and fun to be around.
His daughter is also in the design/styling business, but I've lost track of her.

RE: Sucking dust

OK, if you are not very skilled at it, you don't want to blow out a paper air filter element.
And you do not want to bang one on the ground and reuse it.
It is way too easy to break a pleat in the paper element which can allow dirt directly into the engine. That is known as "dusting" and can ruin any engine in short order.
Times 2!!
An air intake pulling air from the back draft area of a MH is a bad idea.

RE: Engine Diagnostics - Warning, possible stupid question :-)

You may want to consider a Scan Gage. It will not only provide OBD codes but will also provide a wide range of operating information as you drive along and isn't a lot more expensive.

RE: Wheel Shimmy

The fact that it only starts after hitting a couple of bumps in succession makes me think the shocks are the most likely culprit.

RE: Premium Gas

The only thing I might do is run a plug (1) one step hotter in the genny to help burn the premium fuel.
And why would that be???
The plug-----regardless of heat range-----will fire when the ignition system tells it to. If it's gaped correctly, it will fire either regular or premium fuel.

RE: F53 parking brake release

I was out to the MH today for some other things. The parking brake release handle is just to the left of the steering column and tucked up close to the bottom of the dash-----you can't even see it from the driver's seat. One would have to get his foot high and to the center to catch it-----it's nowhere near where my foot travels when applying the parking brake.
Something must have changed either by the coach builder or on later F53's.

RE: How best to handle payment to private seller.

A few years ago I bought a car on E-bay from a dealer. He only wanted a wire transfer. He provided information from his bank (information that couldn't be used to withdraw money) to me. I went to my bank and setup a wire transfer-----but told the bank not to transmit the transfer until I called them back from the dealer. I checked out the car, called my bank, and 20 minutes later, the money was in his bank. Both of us were protected.

We bought ours for 75% of initial asking price. Probably could have got it cheaper if we would have got up to leave sooner!! That's when they agree to my last offer.

RE: Carl Edwards

Mayfield and Earnhardt Sr were racing for position (and to win the race). Earnhardt Sr, in the 3 videos previously linked, was also racing for position.
Edwards wasn't-----he was over a 100 laps down and just looking to wreck Keselowski. Big difference.

RE: Premium Gas

What you're now discussing is the delay period or reaction time for different fuels----------and we've now not only moved from telling the time of day, to building a clock, but on to discussing the metallurgy of the parts being made for the clock. Like burn rates, these may be different for different fuels but the changes aren't necessarily related to octane changes.

RE: Premium Gas

The energy/temperature in a spark (especially from today's ignition systems) is way higher than necessary to ignite either regular or premium gas.
Look at it another way--------take 2 pans of gas, one regular and one premium. Throw a match into either and they will both burn/explode immediately!!

RE: Premium Gas

Premium will ignite as fast as regular FROM THE SPARK PLUG. Without the spark plug firing, however, it takes a higher combination of pressure and temperature for premium gas to auto-ignite------thus the need for it in higher compression engines.
To the OP, keep the rubber side down with the "toys"!!!
