RE: Stephen Foster SP Georgia

Stephen Foster SP is on our list of places to visit. My question is about the bugs. I would imagine that mid spring to mid fall the critters would be pretty heavy. Is this true?

RE: ABS module repair

Module Master and a vendor on Ebay are a couple of the sources I have found so far. Doing a search of this site one fellow mention a vendor in Tenn. he used and was very satisfied. Anyone know who that may have been? Bill T

ABS module repair

The ABS module on my tow vehicle no longer works. Dealership wants about $1200.00 to replace it. I have found three companies that will repair it for around $150.00. Does anyone out there have any experiences with repaired modules? Have the repairs held up? Would care to name the repair facility you used and would you use them again? Any other comments are welcome. Thanks for any input. Bill T

RE: Dometic heat strip not putting out warm air A/C

Although I have not seen this particular heat strip, all strips will have some sort of thermal overload. The strip is easily checked with an ohm meter, check for continuity from one connection post to the other. Got continuity, good, now check for continuity from both connector post, one at a time, to the heater frame, you do not want a reading here because the heater element would be short circuited to ground. No continuity from post to post? Look on the backside of the heater frame for a resistor looking device, check for continuity from the connector post to the backside of the thermal overload, if it reads open replace the overload, available at hvac supply houses.

RE: Hunting Island State Park in December

We enjoy the "back loop" for all the reasons you stated. One site we like is #159. It is a pull-thru with the backside of the trailer facing the road. There is plenty of room if you want to put up a screen house and have a campfire. If site layout has not changed there is no designated spot for your campfire so you can build one where it suits you. Good privacy, five minute walk to the beach, nearby bathhouse, plenty of deer and 'coons.

RE: Ticking noise in wheels

Twice I have had a similiar sound. The brake liner came unglued from the brake shoe. If so, be sure to replace both brake shoes.

RE: franklin north carolina area

I have been told that Standing Indian will close two months early this year for water and bathhouse repairs. I did look at the available reservations for October and found no sites avaiable. But that could be because of the "leaf-lookers". If anyone is considering going there it may be advisable to call first.

RE: Norcold Refrigerator

I would pull the vent over on the roof and do a good inspection of the flue area, from the top side and the bottom side. Get mirrors and flashlight and inspect it good for obstructions. Pull the burner ass'y (not very difficult). Clean any rust that may have accumlicated there and clean the slots in the burner. Caution, do not enlarge the slot openings, use a tooth pick, cardboard or something on that order. With the burner removed, remove the orfice and clean it with alcohol, just soak it for awhile. Do not probe the opening with anything hard, lightly probe it with a toothpick and blow it out. Once everything is back together check your gas pressure, you may need assistance with this if you are not familiar with the procedure. With the burner on you want 11"wc at a minumum. If this does not correct your problem then have it professionally checked before dropping big bucks for a new unit. Other things to consider, are the door gaskets leaking? Take a dollar bill and close the door and pull the bill out, you should feel some resistance. Are you over loading the unit with warm food, especially in the freezer? Precool or freeze the products before placing them in the freezer or the refrigerator section. The best time to check temps is in the morning when the doors have not been "fanned". To often when we are having problems we tend to open the frig too often to check the temp and then loose the cool when the door is opened.

RE: Eww, mildew on awning..help!

I have good results with Tilex Mildew Remover. I first wet the awning then spray a section at a time with the Tilex.. I use a brush with an extended handle to scrub the bad spots. When the awning is clean I wash the awning with Dawn to remove any left over Tilex. When dry I apply a coat of Protectant 303. My awning is six years old and still looks very good. Washing the under side is more difficult, some people apply the cleaner and roll it up for a while. Then unroll it and rinse, I haven't tried that method. I also completly unroll the awning but do not raise it for cleaning.

RE: Need expert backing up advice

My experience is that the longer the trailer the easier the backing.

RE: Did 1973 Holiday R Trailers have Aluminum Frame

Tim Thanks for the info. I have a '73 Vacationer, aprox. 18' in dry storage waiting on me to retire. It will be a rebuild project for our river property.

RE: dry camping tricks to power

Although I have not tried this method it does make sense. First, your truck alternator regulator only senses the condition of the truck battery. So if the truck battery charge is in good condition it will not produce the higher voltage required to charge a discharged trailer battery. Supposedly (sp?, hope you know what I mean) you can turn on your head lights and any other heavy power drains and that should cause the regulator to kick into a higher voltage recharge . Again I don't know if it works but it does sound good. Also, look at purchasing a couple of 6 volt Trojan T-105 batteries. Hook 'em up in series. We can go for five or six days in the summer without having to recharge. In the winter a couple of days or more depending on how cold it is.

RE: Mildew in awning- how to remove?

I'll second the Tilex, but I don't roll it up. Just do a section at a time, rinse and do another. The only pain is doing the underside. Does rolling it up clean the underside also? When the fabric is dry it gets a coat of Protectant 303. Awning is six years old and still looks very good.

RE: A/C Thermostat

If you do select a household thermostat make sure it is not the mercury bulb style. The movement of the trailer would cause a lot of ac problems.

RE: Hunting Island SC Fishing - ?

Just a friendly word of caution. On the upper end of the beach is Johnson Creek. It can have have very strong currents as the tide moves in and out.

RE: Rattling a/c

Sure hope it's the mud dopper thing. It also could be some type of foreign debris got into the blower wheel(indoor section). Otherwise check for harden or loose blower motor mounts, worn blower motor bushings ( see if you can feel any shaft movement by pulling up on the shaft, not in and out shaft movement). Check for any lines rubbing against each other. Check rubber mounts for compressor feet, if noise is coming from inside compressor then more than likely compressor has become dislodged from its internal mount, new compressor required. Check the ac units mount bolts, they could have become loose and the whole unit is rattling around on the roof. Access is from inside the trailer. All other checks to be made with the shrould removed.

RE: Hwy 441 Cherokee to Gatlinburg

We make the pull twice a year with the rig in my signature. Never any problem. Just take your time, keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front and enjoy the trip. Remember to use the same gear going down the mt. as you used going up. I don't know much about the Allison transmission but it may take care of that for you. The NC side has been resurfaced, as of the first of April I don't know if TN has done anything yet or not.

RE: Replacing the fm antenna

Do a Google search for am/fm antennas. You will find indoor and outdoor antennas. The connectors are refered to as a F connector, the FNB mentioned by jcamp2003 may be the same thing.

RE: Radio, Since DTV Sucks

A limb fell on our Dish at the cabin and no more tv at this time, sure will miss John Wayne and Clint on Saturday. I'm sorry for scabbing onto this thread but since you're talking radio I'm wondering if anyone has any recomendations on a quality am/fm radio?

RE: a/c vibration

The motor has a blower wheel on the other end that needs to be checked also. It's a little more difficult to access, hopefully the vibration cause will be found on the outdoor fan blade. If you do have to check the indoor wheel be sure to look inside the wheel, that's where you will find insulation or whatever sucked into the blower wheel. And there could be wear in the motor bushings, not likely though. To check place one hand on the motor and push down and with the other hand pull up on the motor shaft, you would expect to feel no to very slight movement. Motor end play (shaft movement in and out of the motor) is not real critical since the motor will come to its natural magnetic center once its energized.
