RE: Battery Monitor, Xantrex LinkPro Question

i have the same monitor and battery bank you do as well as the 5.5kw onan. I would like to know how to do that as well. I think there is a module you have to buy that attaches to the generator that allows the monitor to start it. anyone done this?

RE: BATTERY MONITORS

i have the Xantrex Link Pro and it is awesome. it monitors 2 banks and lets me know when i've inadvertently left something turned on. It's mounted near the door so I pass by it everytime I leave the coach. Bill H mentioned that the Trimetric needs to be disconnected to reset in order to eliminate the synchronization error...the LinkPro does that with the push of 2 buttons. I just push the buttons every time it's fully charged and it resynchronizes the meter to a full bank. Did I mention it's awesome? it's the best thing in the RV....well, except for DW of course!

RE: Check battery water levels with shorepower connected?

I've checked them with the power connected and disconnected...nothing happened so I hope it was ok. Not saying it was right or wrong, just that I'm still here and nothing blew up.

RE: satellite connections

Yes that's kinda what Meant. Plug your sat dish into the park cable input on the outside of rv. Take the other end of that cable off the routing switcher and plug directly into sat receeiver. Output of receiver into routing switcher and life is good.

RE: satellite connections

unplug the line that comes from your wetbay/park cable and plug it directly into your satellite receiver. the output from your sat receiver then plugs into the multi video switch. you should then be able to send the batwing antenna signal to the back tv and the sat signal to the front tv. at least that's how mine works. good luck

RE: RVing in the winter

Gonzo 71, thanks for the info on Miquelon Lake. I didn't know they were open year round with power. they're a little farther for us cuz we live in spruce grove but we might check it out. as for the dump stations, I found that the 2 rv/truck wash places I called both had sani dumps that are open year round. I suspect there are more out there and I aim to find one close to my house.

RE: RVing in the winter

propane 1320 and anyone else living in edmonton, i found 2 new dump stations today that are apparently open year round. one is at an RV/truck wash at the intersection of Highway 60 and Yellowhead, the other is at a truck wash at 60 ave and 99th street. They don't look like much but they're there and I'll be using them during the next few months because I'm renting my motorhome to friends who are doing a major kitchen reno and need a portable kitchen on their driveway. I'll need to go and dump the tanks and refill propane about every week or so. I used the rig this past weekend at Pigeon Lake in -10 celcius temps every night with no problems. we were the only ones in the entire campground...it was awesome. we used 2 electric space heaters and a 75 watt light bulb in the wet bay. there was enough heat leaking through the floor to keep the basement above freezing. the furnace hardly ever ran. we had to run an extension cord to the adjacent campsite to steal power for the second heater as they only have 15 amp power there. one of those heaters eats a circuit all by itself.
good luck in the snow.

RE: Where do I place my new Invertor ???

I installed my 1200 watt inverter in basement storage near battery bank. I ran heavy gauge cable to it through a 200 amp breaker. I ran 110 volt out of inverter to an auto transfer switch along with the shore power/generator power. the transfer switch detects when shore/gen power disconnects and automatically switches to the inverter power feed. out of that transfer switch i take 110 volt back to an auxiliary breaker panel where I have all the circuits installed that I want to run off inverter power. everything else I left in the main panel (e.g. air cond, fridge, converter/charger will only run off shore or generator). so, in short this is how it works: when i'm on shore or generator power everything works like normal. when either of those are not present the power is taken from the inverter but only to things that will run on inverter. when i'm on inverter i have normal power to all outlets in coach, fridge auto switches to propane, converter/charger is offline and silent and air cond won't switch on....that's it. simple smooth idiot proof operation and your wife will never know you're not on shore power.
any questions, ask away.

RE: Battery Discinnect switches

on my rig the main is the chassis battery and the aux is the coach/house battery. neither will charge when the disconnects are used. both batteries do charge from the converter charger when they're connected though. unless you are parking the unit for storage I wouldn't disconnect the batteries, and certainly not while you're using it. the cd player and stereo on mine runs from the chassis battery so I guess that wouldn't work if I disconnected just the chassis battery not to mention it wouldn't be recharged either.

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

I had a bay door painted because I was a dumb $#% and raised the door too high and then proceeded to extend the slide. As I was extending the slide I heard a scratching sound and in my infinite wisdom I thought, well maybe it needs to go in and out a few times. Well the sound did not go away! Later I realized what caused the sound. I'm usually good for one dumb mistake each year. I hope this was the one!
I laughed pretty hard at this one...until I remembered trying to remove one of those doors one time by driving it sideways along the length of its hinge..right past the entry door cutting a nice groove through the paint and beyond. Unfortunately for me I couldn't hear the scratching that you mentioned because the scratching sound was conveniently masked by the blows from the 5 pound mallet. talk about being a dumb $#%!

RE: Cracked shower panel

so if i can find a piece of plastic that will work can I glue it on with construction adhesive...like PL700 for shower applications? or should i just uses silicone? I did try using silicone to seal the cracks earlier as well but it wouldn't hold the seams together when they flexed, perhaps it would work as a glue to hold the new sheet over top of the cracked old one. Can i use any spray paint meant for outdoor use or is there a special paint for shower applications?
thanks again for the help,

Cracked shower panel

i have a bunch of cracks above the shower head mount that I'd like to patch/fix. The dealer priced out a new shower stall (I have to buy all 3 pieces as a kit) for $700 and $300 install...no thanks! It's some sort of plastic (not fiberglass) in an almond colour. I tried epoxy but that cracked and peeled off very quickly. I was thinking that I'd just find a piece of almond coloured thin sheet plastic and glue it over the cracked section and put caulking around the edge of it. I'm having trouble finding anyone who sells plastic in that colour. any thoughts? I did try to take that piece out with the hope that I could have it plastic welded or lay it on a flat surface and fix it from the back but it's going to be difficult to remove without destroying it further. anyone managed to fix these themselves? I would welcome any suggestions.
thanks,

RE: A few dry camping questions

I have only 2 - 6v batts and I charge with the gen about an hour every 2 days. My charge wizard makes sure almost 30 amps are going in to batteries. I wouldn't want to use the gen to charge withou the wizard. It woudl take way too long. As for the solar panel...mine came with the tiny panel as well and I think it uses more power to run it's indicator light than it actually produces. I have a link pro meter and it doesn't seem to indicate any charge coming in from it. I would also be interested to know if it still charges with the battery disconnect shut off.

Popbeavers, so you pump from the stream through a filter right into your fresh water holding tank on the rv? ever had any problems? what filter do you use?

RE: Safe to drive with propane tank on?

I leave mine on all the time so I can run the fridge while driving and the furnace when it's really cold. I shut down the appliances when filling the fuel tank (I've forgotten the odd time) but I leave the propane tank valve open. when I park the rig at home I usually shut off the valve between trips and for sure it's closed at the rv storage lot. I'm not saying that I'm using the safest practices but so far so good.

RE: refilling water tank from stream

Bikerk9 - no, I've never had beer pancakes or beer on cereal....maybe i'll try it on my next trip...haha. I'm glad I asked about this. Thanks for all the replies. it looks like i'll stay away from pumping stream water into my tanks for now and just try to conserve water even more than we do already. I was hoping to be able to go 2 weeks without refilling from a potable source and with a family of 4 that is going to be a challenge.

RE: refilling water tank from stream

thanks for the replies. I remember years ago camping with my parents we would drink right out of mountain streams. I never once got sick or even thought I might be doing anything potentially dangerous. I certainly wasn't planning on pumping out of a dirty pond or lake, only clean looking running water. ok, if I'm going to use a filter then you're saying I should use one that's rated for drinking water and protect my fresh water system? what kind of filter would I use and approx how much would it cost. any idea how much water I could pump through it before I'd have to replace it? will any ac or dc pump work?
thanks again,

refilling water tank from stream

Does anyone refill their fresh water tank from a stream or river while boondocking? if so, what kind of pump and hose do you use and how far can you pump the water, etc? also, if I'm not drinking the water do I need to filter it...just using it for washing, toilet, etc.
thanks,

RE: Charge Wizard

Best upgrade for that charger ever! it took 1 minute to install and it's completely automatic. I agree with Danal, get someone with a good back to lay on the floor and plug the thing in...done! $71 for that job is just plain stealing.
