RE: Jayco

We own a 34RLQS Designer 2007, very happy with it. One of the nice things with Jayco is the 2 year warranty. We have had a couple of minor things that were taken care of right away without any hassle. I pull it with a 1 ton Chev Diesel dually. Pulls like a dream, heading to Florida in the morning with it.

RE: RV Show in Minneapolis This Weekend

Missing it this year, we were planning on going and then heading south on Friday, but the weather looks like we need to get on the road sooner. Have fun at the show!!!

RE: Cargo/Tool Boxes

I ended up building my own also, I think it was the best way for me to go. I built mine with room on each side for a square gas can. They are 20" tall and I couldn't find any commercially built ones that were deep enough or that didn't extend above my side rails. Your plans sound very sound to me and I think you will be very happy with your end product because it will be something that you built to your specifications. Sorry I don't have any pictures at this time of mine. Good luck and have fun!

RE: New to Fefth-wheeling

I agree with Delaine and Lindy, I would get the fifth wheel first and then go for the truck. I would definitely go diesel, but the big question would be then, 3/4 ton or 1 ton, single wheel or dualies. :?I went about it the wrong way and ended up buying a 3/4 ton and then realized that I would be better off with a 1 ton dually.:S It gets spendy doing it this way, so get your trailer and then get the RV and then when you get the RV figure on at some point you will want to upgrade and then buy the appropriate truck. Good Luck!!;)

RE: Towing 5th wheel Big Horn

I pulled our Jayco34RLQS with 2500 with the Allison, it pulled OK! That being said, I knew I was overloaded and I could just imagine getting into an accident and maiming someone or killing someone because I was overloaded and could not stop. The lawyers would have had a field day, so although I was somewhat happy with my setup I opted to be on the safe side. I traded out for a 3500, 6.6 TD Duramax with the Allison transmission and dualies. The difference is unbelievable, we feel like there isn't anything behind us now, and when the wind is blowing across the road we don't feel it while we see a lot of campers going down the road fighting the wheel the whole time the wind is blowing. With the size and the weight of the Bighorn I would not even consider a 2500, much to dangerous to be on the road IMHO.

RE: Silverado OEM brake controller

I have the IBC in our truck and we really like it, works flawlessly, had another brake controller on our old tuck. We like the IBC better.

RE: 2500HD 6.0L gas

I agree with a couple of others on the diesel's, I have a 6.6 Turbo Diesel 1 ton dually and I get between 9.9 and 13 mpg pulling a 37' fifth wheel. On short trips empty I get 15.6 mpg constantly. Empty on the freeway at 62 to 65 I get a minimum of 18 mpg and have gotten up to 20 mpg depending on the hills and the weather. I had a 2500 with the 8.1 in it and I would get between 6 to 8 mpg pulling and 8 to 10 on the freeway empty, and 6 to 8 in town. Although the diesel was more expensive, even at the higher prices of diesel I figure I'm still way ahead on fuel costs. I really love to drive this truck, it has loads of power and when you step on it, it jumps even with a load on the back end.

RE: Best 5th wheel

Definitely go and see many different RV's and if possible try to rent one to see how much room you really need. Some have lots of storage and others have very little. If you are on the road a lot and away from home for extended periods of time you might find that you need more "things" and need more room. Also if you are away a lot, the size might make a difference, such as does one sleep later and do you need a little space now and then to get away from each other. Do your homework first, once you jump in it gets very expensive to change campers.

RE: Going around Atlanta on I-285

I was petrified about going thru Atlanta, last year on our way home I was at a rest stop and asked another camper how to get past Atlanta without going thru. He said at this time of the day, 10:30 AM it was not a problem to go straight on thru. I couldn't believe him but I thought why not follow him. We followed him thru Atlanta and it was very easy and I will do it again this year. The lane changes are the thing that you have to watch for ahead of time, so this year I got a Garmin GPS that shows the lanes you need to be in to go thru. As others have said just don't go thru at the busy times.

RE: What's The Difference Between 3/4 & 1 Ton Duramax?

I think the 3500 comes with an 8 foot box while the 2500 generally is a short box. Also the 2500 has a 26 gal fuel tank and the 3500 has a 36 Gal fuel tank. Also heavier springs as was mentioned. If its a diesel, there is a very powerful engine under the hood. I look in there and wonder what ever happened to the 350 V-8 that you could crawl into the engine compartment and change plugs and do a tune up in your garage. Now I just look and walk away, but I can still change oil. Great truck!!!

RE: Cabin Fever already !

I too have the fever, we have a cover on the 5er and its a bear to get into. Supposed to get into the 30's Wednesday so I am going to try and get up on the roof and shovel 2 feet of snow off so I can get the cover off before we leave for Florida in the middle of February. I have some time before we leave but with this winter I don't dare take any chances that it will get this warm again for a while. As I get older the more I hate winter:M and am looking to 6 weeks in Florida.:)

RE: Jayco Eagle FW

I would have to agree with another poster, if you are looking for something to last a long while, take a look at the regular Eagle or Designer. I looked at one of the superlites for a buddy and I thought there was several areas where Jayco cut back on. One of the things I noticed was the bathroom floor was soft and you did not feel a solid floor under you. Also the door seemed to be smaller and lower than others, that said, I have been a Jayco owner for several years and feel that generally they put out a top notch RV. Good Luck in Your choice!!

RE: Jayco 341 RLQS

I had a Chev 2500 with the 8.1 V-8 Gas and Allison transmission. It pulled the 341RLQ Designer without any problems but that being said, I upgraded to a 1 ton Chev dually with the 6.6 Turbo Diesel just because the 2500 was overloaded and I was afraid of getting into an accident where I would not be able to stop with that big of a load behind me. With the 1 ton dually we keep looking back to see if its still there.
