RE: Durango 315RK

Our first 5er back in '95 was a rear kitchen so we have experience with this kind of unit. We pulled it up to Alaska and drove around up there for 43 days and never had a problem with things bouncing around or fallin out but we made sure doors were closed and secured and we had plastic plates and glasses to use. They may bounce but normally don't break...thankfully.

Durango 315RK

Anyone have a Durango 315RK fiver? We are thinking of trading in our single slide 28' Cougar for this rear kitchen Durango. I need a bedroom slide coach because of a health issue that gets me out of bed many times during the night if you get my meaning...:o I was just wonderin if anyone had this unit and what they think of it? Thanks.

RE: Asian Ladybugs!

I hate those little buggers...we are infested with them pests in our neighborhood. Every fall they come into the sun-room of our house in the hundreds. One particular day I took the hose of our Dyson and sucked up over 175 of them...thinking I beat them I put the vacuum away for the day. Two hours later when I went back into the sun-room and found a hundred more of them on the ceiling...Out came the Dyson and the sucking started all over again. All this winter, and every winter since we bought this house, we've been invaded by them little orange pests. I've tried spraying and swatting but not much has helped as of yet. Maybe a flame thrower!

RE: Mileage with a diesel Phaeton

We ordered a 03 Phaeton back in 03. Once it arrived I was happy to get 9 mpg but on one trip I averaged 10.7 mpg. This was me holding a constant 55 mph. Sold the unit when we just didn't use it enough...

Green Bay RV show

Friday we drove over to the Green Bay RV show in our start to look for a 30 - 32 foot double-slide fiver. There wasn't much there in what we were looking for but we got a ton of ideas. Naturally we fell in love with the 42' Allegro Bay motor coach that was on display. Only 299K on sale...got to check last nights Powerball numbers to see if we can get one on order... The Madison, WI. show is comin up in two weeks so we'll head there to see whats what...then off to the Twin City's a few weeks later. The Milwaukee show is at the end of February. After doin all four shows we should have something new in the driveway, after all the ice/snow melts. Think spring.

RE: Fellow Keystone Owners?

Cover the jaws of your slip-joint pliers with a little friction tape before you attempt to remove the covers. This will give your pliers grip and not mar the finish of those nut covers. As for the covers that came with my Cougar. They also are still in the bag. I didn't want to be bothered with taking them off and then have to reinstall them after I check the torque of my lug nuts.

RE: Long Trips/Extended Use Keystone Cougar

We bought a left-over 2008 Cougar this spring and love it. One very cool night I turned our coach's furnace on and it worked perfectly but as the night progressed and the furnace worked to keep the inside of the coach warm, it developed a very high pitch squeal when it was running. I'm assuming that a bearing in the furnace is on the way out so I notified my dealer and will be taking it in for repairs early this spring. Our coach is tucked nicely against our house for the winter. It'll sit there until the snow melts and its time to hit the campgrounds. Which I can't wait for...

RE: couger

We purchased our new '08 28' Cougar this spring. We made a 4000+ trip with it and a bunch of instate trips so far and have enjoyed the unit quite a bit. Unfortunately I had to put her to bed, winterize her today, so she'll just sit next to the house waiting for spring so we can do it all over again. We really didn't have any serious problems other then the furnace develops a high pitched squeal after it gets warm. I called my dealer and discussed it and we will put it over in the spring and let them take a look see at what the problem is. Other then that we like the coach. I wouldn't be afraid to buy another Cougar but maybe one with two slides. I hate crawling out of bed at night to use the bathroom especially without a slide out bed. It's kind of tight for a old goat like me...:B

RE: slide in or out thru winter???

In is the only way to have your slides during the winter if you live in cold weather climate, as you do. I also agree on lubricating the seals prior to storing the slide for the winter... Winter...how I hate that word...

RE: CBS News Sunday Morning hope you watched/watch this Sunday,

I feel sorry for those souls who have never experienced our fantastic National Parks. Over my life time I have visited dozens of them and we visited Yellowstone, Tetons and Glacier again this summer. We just never get tired of see those fantastic sites. The crowds get a little old but lookin past that one negative, there is no place like our National Parks. I encourage everyone to see what we have seen. Happy camping all, especially in a National Park.

RE: Black streaks

Give Simple Green a try also. Been using it for years. Works great and is more cost friendly...

RE: towing with a gasser F-250

Sorry to say, but I think that trailer of yours is at the towing max of your truck, so add water and personal stuff you may be working that little 5.4L to its limits. I have a 6.0L gas engine in my GMC and it handles my 5K trailer with ease. I would check on your trucks limits and see if you maybe add something to it give you more power. Good luck...

RE: How to prevent 5th wheel theft?

This is just one thing I have never given much thought to. If someone wants my coach, and its sittin in front of my house, they are welcome to it. That's what insurance is for. If they want it, and its parked at a park someplace, and its setup, they would just attract way to much attention as they attempt to disconnect hoses, electrical and bring the slide in. Hopefully someone camping close by would realize that the truck trying to hook up isn't the same truck that dropped the trailer and set it up and call the authorities...Hopefully...

RE: FW cap and bugs

Go to your local Auto Parts Store and see if they have a SeaFoam product called Bugs-B-Gone. Works like crazy, just follow directions. I've been using it for years...

RE: Should I get a 5th wheel?

When I ordered my '08 GMC 2500HD 4X4 I ordered it specifically for future pulling of a fifth-wheel. The biggest thing I wanted was a 8 foot box. I opted for this for ride comfort and truck cab vs. trailer front backing & turning clearance. I just didn't want to dink around with sliding hitches and wanted the storage room in the front of the box when the coach was attached. I ordered the truck with the built in trailer break control also. I love this decision. The only mistake I made, if you call it that, was I should have put more thought into the motor I selected. I ordered the truck with the 6.0 gas engine instead of the diesel for no other reason I just couldn't justify that $7500 upgrade for the diesel. At my age I thought I just couldn't justify it. Now I wish I would have just ordered the diesel and been done with it. Oh well, live and learn.:( Other then that I love the truck & trailer combination we have. The six speed transmission works very well pulling our trailer and the gas mileage isn't to bad considering I run 65+ mph down the road. Our Cougar trailer is rated that it could be pulled by a 1/2 ton truck but I think this would max out any truck that size. Our 3/4 ton doesn't even know the trailer is back there on straight level roads but it does work some on hills and in the mountains. A 1/2 ton with a smaller motor would be hard pressed to pull this 28' trailer so my recommendation is for a 3/4 ton truck for pulling a 28' or bigger fiver...

RE: Is five inches enough?

My fiver has just a tab more then 5 inches between the top of the truck box and the bottom of the trailer frame. I have never noticed any maneuver that gets them dangerously close together...knock on wood...

RE: Jayco . Quality????

This spring when we were lookin for a new fiver we looked seriously at Jayco but ended up with a Keystone Cougar. The main reason was that our local Jayco dealer was a horse's behind. He acted like we were bothering him as he showed us his inventory so we drove up the road and bought the unit we got. I was actually looking forward to pulling a Jayco but it just wasn't to be...Oh well!

RE: I smell a rat on rv park reviews..

I read everyone's comments and opinions on this subject and feel, just like the posting on RVPR, everyone has a comment and opinion...:R Just kidding. I have used RVPR for years now and love it. I also read ALL the postings on a campground I'm thinking of visiting but I also research the facilities web page if they have one. I hate going into a campground and finding its a waste of money because of poor management and upkeep. I also feel that people who post should be honest about the info they are posting and shouldn't just post because they feel they have a vendetta against the campground... When I do rate a campground I try to be as honest as I can on what I observed and experienced. Its a hard thing to do but this is just how I am. Happy camping all...;)
