RE: Very Random RV Query

I saw one of these in an RV park in Baja about 6 years ago.
Arrived about six P/M & left at 1st light the next morning.
It was very impressive.
It was a large firetruck red 45 Footer, MBZ engine with seats in the front & maybe 30 bunks in the rear, German plates.
Spoke with the driver as he was preparing dinner for like 30 people. He indicated he was the driver, cook & tourist guide. Helped him set up, he was working his tail off!
They were German tourists who had traveled to the tip of Baja & were returning to Long Beach to load the RV onto a ship for its return to Germany
Never seen anything like it since.
Bet you can't pack 30+ people into a Newell!

RE: Reverse Mortgage?

Supercub,
I did not see a single post where someone used a reverse mortgage to purchase a DP.
My 2cents is just finance your DP when you retire. I know you indicated you wanted to be debt free when you retire but I don't think a reverse mortgage is the way to go because of the high costs associated with it & the negative amortization..
Debt is debt, the only advantage of a reverse mortgage is that you would not have a mortgage/DP payment.
If $ is the issue than by all means go for it, life is short,
enjoy your golden years while you still have your health!
Happy Trails

RE: Need your Thoughts on Golf Cart Hauler

BASSMAN50,
I agree with the posters who indicate a tandem wheel trailer would be the way to go work. Thats alot of weight to put on your rear bumper.
A 18-20' trailer should do the trick.
Your Tahoe is a bit bigger than my Suzuki but I haul my 88 Suzuki & custom golf cart in a 20" enclosed trailer with room to spare.
Don't know what the laws are on hauling dual trailers but I am sure many states do not allow it.
Enjoy!

RE: Traveling With Firearm?

Nick,
Do your think customs at your port of entry might be able to offer some suggestions if you called or e-mailed them?
You are absolutely correct in checking your peacekeeper,
some of those mounties can get real grumpy if the catch you packing.
Let us know what you ended up doing!
Good Luck!

RE: RV parks in San Diego area for 45' Dynasty?

Bruinbro,
Don't know what you are willing to spend per night, the Mission Bay Parks are top notch & waterfront but pushing $80+ per night.
If money is no object here are the most current phone #'s I have for them:
Mission Bay RV Park 1-877-219-6900
Campland on the Bay 1-800-422-9386- Check out their $200 a night space
My recommendations are:
Chula Vista KOA: about a 30 minute drive but very nice park with goods eats within walking distance- Nice 9 hole Muni Golf Course across street a real plus if your packing your clubs.
619-427-3601
Santee Lakes: 15 minute commute if you don't catch traffic. Speaking of catching, if you fish they have 7 lakes of which a couple are reserved only for campers. Very clean & reasonable priced. This of my favorite weekend getaway places. The newer section is all pull though sites, so your 45 footer & toad will not be a problem.
619-596-3141
Champagne Lakes: If your into rustic this is the campground for you. North of Escondido, a couple of great casino's 30 minutes north.
760-749-7572
Say hello to Shamu & enjoy!

RE: Can you park a Class A at Six Flags?

Crasster,
If you are referring to Disneyland in Anaheim & Six Flags in Valencia the answer is yes to both. They charge about twice the amount for MH's.
Both are off major freeways, not much of a hassle getting in or out.
For what is worth there are a few RV parks in Anaheim & all offer free shuttles to Disney.
Enjoy!

RE: Why Diesel?

Lagreca,
Bet you didn't think you would get this much input,
but you brought up the gaser vs. diesel issue, you bad boy!
Anytime the gas vs diesel subject comes up ,
diesel wins 90% of the time.
Once you've driven a diesel, your spoiled for life,
you'll never go back to a gasser.
Enjoy your new toy, sounds like you got a good buy!

RE: AZ Republic Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco) news story

Hola from beautiful Puerto Penasco,
We have been enjoying our time here. Plays Bonita RV Park is a great
setting for peaceful and quiet days and wonderful sunsets. We have taken a few precautions, but feel very comfortable.
GKnee
Are there many people at the RV Park?
Is Rocky Point really as dead as indicated in the AZ. Republic's
news story?
Are the locals wearing masks?
Thanks for the info!

RE: Well It Finally Happened.....In Monclova

Mr. Brew-Ski
Some of the Transit Cops quickly learn that the more they can intimidate a tourist the more success they'll have.
Its easy for them to say "ok lets go to the station and I'm charging you with speeding and reporting that you assaulted me and you're going to jail"
It's a little tougher when you're faced with these kind of trumped up charges.
Graydon
Graydon,
I don't believe that, the bad cops know they are in the wrong & don't want to call attention to themselves.
These bad apples are just looking for a quick buck.
These guys have sized you up in the 1st 30 seconds, the'll quickly retreat if they sense your not easy prey.
Granted, they are intimidating but you must stand your ground.
But, If I felt my safety or that of my family was in jeapardy I would payup in a nanosecond!
I am of the belief that 99% of the police SOB are honest & hard working, its sad these bad cops tarnish the reputation of all.
Just me 2 cents.

RE: Well It Finally Happened.....In Monclova

Jer Bear,
I know it is very easy to critique sitting in my lounge chair typing on my laptop @ home. If everyone refused to pay these CROOKS it would make it much easier on the next RVer they want to extort. If you can't talk your way out of a ticket indicate you will go to the local magistrate to pay the "fine", most of the time the cop will just give up & look for easier prey.
Many threads have been dedicated to the few bad cops in Mexico who supplement their income by extorting $ from tourists.
Thanks for the heads up, maybe something positive can be achieved by your bad experience.

RE: Monaco auction set for May 8

I feel for all the Monaco owners out there with warranty issues both present & future that are left out in the cold & the Monaco employees who are now just unemployment statistics.
Great motorhomes, poor management.
You think a white knight might come in & pick up the pieces?
It will be interesting to see how many coach builders survive these difficult times.
Sad, sad, sad!
