RE: I going to buy a new 5th wheel!

bathroom in one place- consider if the toilet is separate from the sink and shower then someone can be using the toilet while someone else is showering. If not you can have some uncomfortable kids or adults waiting for the shower person to not only shower but now needs to dry and then dry their hair and then get dressed. We love that we have a toilet that is separate but in same area across hall from the shower area. Jayco, Newmar, Sunnybrook, are a few names to look at for fivers.

RE: 2010 GMC 2500HD crew cab 4x4 with Duramax towing questions

I drive a 2003 2500HD and pull a 35 ft Sunnybrook with 3 slideouts without any problems whatsoever. I have a Pullrite superglide hitch and LOVE it, it pulls the trailer away from the rig as you turn so there are no trailer corners going through rear window of the truck. The new Chevy Silverado 2500HD is even stronger so go and have a ball. IF you can get the diesel, I would definitely do it, they last longer but fuel is more costly and some fear they will not find diesel when out on a trip but I have always found it, better miliage.

RE: Newbie question

Gas or Diesel Gas I say Diesel but when I bought my truck the diesel fuel was CHEAPER but not since I bought the truck. The truck does pull better and gets better miliage than a gas truck with a huge engine big enough to pull a big rig Single or Dually Open Minded I do not like dually if a daily ride due to width of the rear and some garages do not allow them to park in Manual or Auto Auto to me no question, get and automatic. Manual are terrible when in traffic and miliage is about the same these days. The turn in pricing for a manual is much less than automatic tranny and the Chevy the famous tranmission (Alison) is great so for me no question get the Automatic 2wd or 4wd Probably 2wd for simplicity 4 wd you will be stuck more than once on wet muddy grass if 2WD and if you are in an area where it snows you really want a truck with 4WD The 2500 of the Silverado if you get the HD is has similar numbers of a 3/4 ton truck and it is plenty for most fifthwheels that are 36 ft and below, some heavier than others. Jayco, Sunnybrook, Newmar, are great names and brands, stay away from cheaply made units which in my opinion is Palamino. Also they are not well respected for customer service so head advice of users.

RE: Newbie question

Palamino does not have a great reputation Duramax/Chevy is a great truck and if you can go for 3500 and I would say single wheel axle IF you are using as daily driver but if you are traveling and want the best then go with dually, just realize it is wide and the exra weight takes up some of what it can tow, but the pin weight can be higher. It takes some to study the number and realize that bigger trucks are heavier so sometimes are not better for pulling but are better for carrying weight in them.

RE: What is fair price for used fiver?

People are upside down in their paymentts for thier units so have to get more than they are worth but that does not mean you have to pay more than what they are worth. I only buy used, and buy from owners that look themselves and their units like they were well taken taken care of, then and only then do I consider buying and that has worked for me. Do NOT buy for more than it is worth. Today new can be an option but there are so many things usually wrong with new units that I like someone else to have had the problems taken care of. We are going to the RV show in Springfield MA next weekend to see if there is something I will like better than the unit we have. The past few years there was only one unit in all of them that I liked a little better but it was $80.000 so did not consider it and it was only because it had a dropped room that was screened in that slide back in to the back of the unit which would be nice in the evening but a pain to figure out for space when backing into the space, you get all settled and OOPS not enough space to slide out your screen room. Best of luck but under no circumstances pay more than it is worth, the name of the game is to pay less and mattering on the miles on the unit which is hard to know you want to enjoy for a long time and pay as little as possible. Dealers will tell you all kinds of lies so be careful

RE: water pump quit

I think there was dust in the tube and when I turned it on it drew antifreeze but then clogged with dust? I don't know but want it to work.

RE: water pump quit

The valve was switched from drawing from fresh water to drawing from this other tube that goes in the antifreeze bottle, I have done it many times before so not a new procedure to me BUT I have not used the water pump to draw water but we did go to a campground a few days prior that had the water shut down so we filled out tank and drew water from there with this waterpump so maybe it was dirty or something.

RE: water pump quit

It was running but would not draw, it was in the fluid without it coming out of the4 bottle. What do you mean "lose prime"? It did nto come out of the bottle, it just stopped drawing after about half of the gallon in the bottle. I have done this before and it worked perfectly for the last few years so I think there was a glob of dust up in the tube and when I started it did draw for a half gallon or so then just stopped drawing but the motor kept running. Weird!

water pump quit

I used my water pump for a few days dry camping(no water) this fall. a few days later I was winterizing and switched the water pump to being able pull out of the bottle of antifreeze and it pulled about half gallon of antifreeze and then ran but did not pull anymore. what could have happened? I got enough in the sinks and shower and toilet and had blown out the lines with air first so I think the rig will be ok but am worried about the water pump. I am thinking a little dust might have been in the tubing that goes into the bottle that I might not have noticed but sucked in with the antifreeze otherwise what could have happened. Like I said it just stopped pulling but did run.

RE: Stop the "bucking"

fifthwheels do buck, rear kitchen or not. Mine does it and we have an automatic sliding hitch which I thought was the problem at first but still have it and all things adjusted correctly. I could use some new shocks on the rig maybe but the dealer told me usually they do not give out on fivers.

RE: someone to tow 5th wheel to Ga from Northern Va

YOU guys ROCK, I was thinking of taking time off work and doing it for her since I have a son in Atlanta area but driving down from here in winter can be treacherous to get to the Virginia area. RVers are great!

RE: ELECTRIC HEATERS

We use an electric heater that is plugged into the post of the shore power so we are not restricted to what we can put on in the rig. Also just bought an electric fireplace that looks like a wood burning stove by Coleman and found it is great, leave it on high heat low fan and it heated the whole rig night and day. IT is cool to look at as it really does look like a fire in there. I also have heat strips in the A/C unit but have NEVER used them really.

RE: Big Buddy going out

Big Buddy is allowed to be used INDOORS, on the box etc. The problem is that it is not clear you can have a small propane tank INDOORS. I used a Big Buddy and a 5# tank IN my house all last winter(not my RV) and we did not have any problems. The Big Buddy has an oxygen sensor, but the small tank is a hazard of explosion so we do not do it anymore, instead we have a woodstove.

RE: Mileage- Class C vs. 5th

I pull a 34BWTS Sunnybrook loaded up and 3 slides. I drive a 2500HD 2003 Chevy Silverado. I am about 10.5mpg pulling the rig and on highway without the trailer the truck is about 20mpg in New England driving. Hope this helps. Fifthwheel is great for the long living situations and less good for the one or two night stays due to set up and break down times.

RE: Accidently pulled Brake-Away Cable Out---Any advice?

By putting in the pin is the way to reset the brake. You are all set AND there are some people who instead of putting a chock behind and in front of the tires and they feel it is better since the brake is locked on. I would say it is not a good idea but it shows that the brake can be on for a long time without problems I would guess they are plugged in or the battery would be drained after a while but you should be able to hook up and go without problem.

RE: My waterpump is working??

NEXT spring will check the valve first before having them check the waterpump. they are not so expensive but hate to have anything changed out if it does not need to be and this waterpump is used to winterize and this year was the first in 4 years to be used to suck from the water tank and it worked great so for to poop out on winterizing is funny to me. Thanks for the help to think about this and you all have a great winter and travel safely if you are lucky enough to moving down the road to warmer climates.

RE: My waterpump is working??

I did stick it into a new bottle of antifreeze and it did not draw any antifreeze but it did pull air since the faucets sputtered but it could just be from pressure in there from the water pump before it went bad. Next spring will try pouring antifreeze into the tube that was supposed to be in the bottle.

My waterpump is working??

I went camping a few weeks ago and the water pump worked fine drawing water from water tank. When I got home after a few days of not using the rig, I winterized it and while drawing up the antifreeze I got the front sink, bathroom sink and shower done before the waterpump noise changed and it no longer was drawing the antifreeze and the pipes started to spurt with air and pushed out the antifreeze I had drawn up since I kept trying to get the waterpump to again function. I had blown the pipes with air first so no water in any of them before I drew up the antifreeze. The toilet never did get the antifreeze coming out. Could something have happened to the water pump that I can fix? I did turn the valve so it would draw from the bottle of antifreeze instead of water tank(fresh water) so that should have had it drawing which it did for 3/4 of a gallon and then stopped drawing but still ran but with a quieter sound. Sound like I need a new one?

RE: Dropped it!

Debra, Call them back and ask what the shipping would be. Sounds like you really want one. I would say that use your check list ALL the time, do not get distracted and make sure eachtime that the pin is in the jaws before you test and test each and every time and you should be ok. Do not listen to the perfect people, they are full of you know what!! We all make mistakes and we all learn by them.
