RE: Electrical Problem?

If you actually had 240 volts on your converter, TV, microwave, etc. they wouldn't have lasted 4 hrs.

RE: GPS

I get a good signal at home in my living room chair, 20' from the window. The newer units don't have near as much trouble with that. I don't think you'll need an antennae.

RE: Wheel Size, does it make a difference?

The 8.25 is the width at the bead. You need to know what you're doing as far as duel separation. If you use wider wheels, you will need wider tires.

RE: How do you start your campfire?

I carry a propane torch, and seldom have a problem getting the fire started. Usually there's enough charcoal left from the previous fire to pile under your wood and start with the torch. It may be a little more of a problem after an all night rain, but even then the torch will get er done.

RE: Alaskan Ferry

The freezer stuff will be OK for a couple of days if it's good and frozen to start with and you leave the door shut. You might consider putting the fridge stuff in a cooler with ice.
As stated above, you can visit your rig several times a day, so no need to take a lot out.
Security isn't an issue.

RE: Dash a jumpin....normal for class A's...???

My dash started doing that in the middle of a trip. I took a cordless drill and self drilling screws to it in a rest stop and it's been good in the 6 or 7 years since.

RE: Driving route 40 from Hinton to Grande Praire

In my opinion, it's the best choice from Hinton.
We have stayed at the big CG just South of Grande Prairie, and at a Prov. park about 1/2 way between Grande Cache and Grande Prairie, and like the Prov. park better. It doesn't have all the services, put is a quiet place to spend the nite.

RE: crossing the boarder w/ dog

We have been asked for the health certificate when entering Canada. We always carry one, and get a new one before each trip. I'm of the understanding that it has to be less than 30 days old, but don't know where I got that idea. It's simple to get, and sure doesn't hurt to have it on hand while traveling, crossing the border or not.

RE: Opinion on crack/potential purchase

The crack itself wouldn't be a big deal to me, but the paint worn off along the trim indicates that it's moving. That would be a problem for me, it's more than a stress crack.

RE: cant find online replacement handle for dump valve??

These are readily available at Camping World and any RV parts house. About 10 bucks plus shipping if you can't get to the store. This will be for the whole valve so you will have a spare.....Dennis
RV Parts
The one in this link is 1.5 inch, just make sure you pick the proper size if you buy the whole thing.

RE: replacement awning material

I've done mine, by myself. It isn't a big deal to unwind the springs as long as you understand they can hurt you. Remove the bolt from the cap on top of the arm, using a wrench to hold it while you unwind it (you can actually hold it with your hands, but you don't want it to get away), counting the turns so you know how many to put back on.
At least one spring has to come out so you can slide the fabric out and back into the slot.

RE: 4 cyl. RV alaska

As long as it's a reliable older unit, it shouldn't be a problem. You just need to understand it's a long ways between part stores. But the part stores here carry pretty much the same parts as those near you.

RE: Hydralic lifts that hold bed up

Napa auto parts sells them. They are rated in lbs. of force, so just because it's the same size doesn't mean it will be the same. When I bought mine, they had to order the ones with stronger force. When they came, they were direct replacements.

RE: tire insurance

In over 50 years of driving, I can only think of 3 tires I've lost to road hazards, and one of those was a piece of steel flat bar run over by the front tire, flipped up and took the side wall out on the rear. The other 2 would have probably been prorated to the point that they wouldn't be worth a phone call.
I'm guessing it isn't worth your time??

RE: Use inverter with shore power

I don't think one answer applies to all inverters. Mine is an older unit, and it does use battery power even when no AC is being used (when left on). We only turn it on when needed.

RE: Glacier N.P.

Johnson's of St. Mary's is up on a hill, and just a short distance from the park entrance, if you can get in the first row you'll have a great view from your window. I have no idea if it's better or worse than the KOA.

RE: 50A load imbalance...

I agree with Luke. Swapping the incoming hots in your panel will correct the problem, at least for the park in. A well managed park will balance the phases and you wouldn't need to deal with it.
The better fix would be to have the park swap the hots on their side. That would improve the problem in the park.

RE: Cat C 7 Rear Main Seal Question

It probably has a little weep, but if it isn't dripping on the floor, I wouldn't worry about it. It may never turn into a leak.

RE: Super C not obvious advantages.

Thanks for the info. I noticed the Super C's have automatic leveling jacks and the C's don't. Is that a big deal? Do the leveling jacks on a Super C enable you to keep the RV level on an uneven campsite, what about a "very" uneven campsite?
KenOnce you've had the automatic jacks, you will never go back.
I think of a super C as a class A with a cab. And it will cost more than a C.

RE: Any Long trips WITHOUT tire blowouts

I thump the tires with a hammer every morning, and again at lunch, check the pressure at the start of a trip and probably once a week during. Replace tires at 6 - 8 years regardless of ware. About 130k on this MH without a blowout, and lots of trips up and down the Alaska Hwy.
