RE: Read only

By any chance are you using WORD 97?

RE: TV reception problems

I guess then, if you access to one, temporarily install (just set one in there if available) some other HDTV receiver and confirm the issue is definitely with the "coach side" or the TV itself. You "sound" like you know what you're doing as far as the set goes. If you're selecting CATV, then doing a scan, that's just about "it." (assuming source selector is set right) Now you might be using something that doesn't "pass" higher frequencies. Just to try something else here, have you replaced any splitters or "taps." Do you consistently only get lower channels? Maybe someone used an older type splitter somewhere that doesn't run to 900 mhz or something similar. I might test the set at this point even though "both" sets appear to have "issues." BUT, I will add, because you have two sets experiencing, for the most part, "precisely" the same issue, I'm more than a little suspect and it's more likely you have some type of frequency restricting (and/or defective) part. Another test you could possibly do is feed a regular antenna in to the CATV port on the RV and see if you can pick up UHF channels. I'd almost bet you won't. Then take the CATV cable off of whatever it attaches to and be sure it passes the higher channels then. If it doesn't then, be sure what you think is the CATV cable is a direct connection to the outside port. There MIGHT be a splitter between what you have "in-hand" and the outside port. It HAS TO work if the CATV cable from the outside port of the RV is attached directly to the set another thought - Do you have a powered switch selector box? If so does it have power run to it? (red LED lit?)

RE: TV reception problems

- off-air first - Are you sure you have the TV set to receive CATV? (cable) That is a "user selection" and it must be actively searched out and "selected." Additionally, a channel scan must follow. -DirectTV - what are you using for an antenna and LNB? At home you likely are looking at 3 different satellites "simultaneously" - In our RV I can only look at one at a time.

RE: Dash blower not working

Hmmm...There just might be a high fan blower relay, but that isn't likely to be your issue. (because your fan doesn't run at any speed I think you said) Now, this might help, but this drawing is for a 1995 F53, (I think) so don't completely rely on this link (might also be a 1991) (the wiring color code diagram is on the print at the top left - it might seem a bit confusing, but some of the wires have more than one color - might be a stripe or trace, or two colored wire - "usually" the most dominate wire color is listed first) One note: I would go ahead and download it as I have no idea how long this drawing will stay there

RE: Gatlinburg

We have maps of all back roads (including the new ones) We have found back ways to nearly everything. I strongly 2nd HWY 321. We always drive right past "everything" and take the lower 73/321 exit. Then, even if we were really going to Sevierville, we take back roads from 321. We spent about 5 hours one day trying to get to Gatlinburg. That won't happen again! :) I know it looks like a long way to go, but it saves an incredible amount of time. Now, I do think the other way right thru the middle of everything is somewhat nicer scenery. But for us, the price to see that scenery is too high from an "aggravation standpoint." Just a note on the back roads...A GPS is VERY helpful, any GPS... I am going to try the 411 route sometime though.

RE: Applying Electrical Service to Roof Top A/C

If our AC unit is on and power is lost, even briefly, then power is restored, the AC unit has a time delay built in before it restarts - now, what IS nasty, is running the AC unit while on generator, and then turning the generator off without first turning off the AC unit - that WILL eventually, if not immediately cause trouble

RE: Dash blower not working

On our 2000 and 2001 fords, I've had to replace fan motor's 3 times. But, it's easy to test. Run a temporary jumper from "+" on the battery to the fan and see if it runs. I didn't have a relay, "specific to the fan" to my knowledge though. There might be a relay for source buss for the fan power

RE: Do I really need an oven?

We have both, convection and an oven - we like having the oven, but we don't use it much - we end up using a small toaster oven or the convection oven - HOWEVER, if you frequently camp in areas without power, and then perhaps generator noise sensitive areas, it matters a lot - might depend on how you use your vehicle more than anything else

RE: Light keeps blowing a fuse

enblethen may be right - the only times I've seen this, a bulb with a single point contact was installed in a base with a 2 point base contact - it's easier to do than you might think

RE: How many use ICC lights

I could care less whether they do or not, I pretty much always use them - ours are extremely convenient, factory built in to the center section of the steering wheel, so why not...

RE: 12 Volt Electrical Problem

Most likely, converter - other possibilities are batteries, or poor connections and not much else - I had a VERY similar issue on our last coach and it was the converter

RE: VOIP good or bad?

We have hundreds, possibly thousands of VOIP supplied phones in service. It VERY much depends on the supplier. We have several, but NUVOX supplies the majority of our customers that use VOIP supplied circuits. Other than a very occasional outage, we have had virtually no issues, certainly none more than with copper circuits. I do recommend you make sure everything (switch, CLEC router, and phones) has a UPS. Seldom makes sense "in a business environment" though, under 8 lines. When that UPS power is gone you go home and get your RV and use it's generator to power the phone equipment and the Internet! That where the RV equipment come in! :) note: several of our employees do use VONAGE at home with no serious complaints. another note: I use an IP "soft phone" extension off of our office NEC system wherever we go and seldom have a problem. I'm trying out MAGIC JACK" this weekend as a backup system, 2nd line, for the wife's laptop...

RE: Continental Tires

I don't have your type or size, and we're not towing a fifth wheel. So ignore the following if you want. We DO run Continental's though. (I think our Continentals are 22.5") I did want to say though, I'm extremely glad to have these. Our RV has HSR's. HSL's might have been a better choice, but sometimes my son uses our RV. I just felt he might accidentally drive over some curbs or whatever. These are some serious tires. I love them. We have several thousands of miles on them and we are VERY happy with them, esp. the price. But they are some really rugged tires. I much prefer them to the Michelin tires they replaced, but not "just" because of price. Another note, is that, we run 100 lbs of air and have never had to air them up. That's amazing to me. Anyway, I guess I just wanted to plug a VERY acceptable tire brand. This brand has worked extremely well for us.

RE: Television and RV;ing

You may also be able to take one (or two) receivers from home while you're traveling. We have 2 each - 2 DVR and 2 standard (NTSC receivers) I've tried the standard receivers and they work - I'm told the DVR's will not work, but I'm going to try them anyway, or possibly find another way to make them work without using the roof sat. ant. I have not tried swapping cards from one "same type" receiver to another. I DID try moving one of the cards to an A65A SONY receiver (one that originally came with the RV) and that did not work. (I was using DISH for the 1st 6 years and only within the last month or so moved to DIRECT TV) The A65A receiver was in the coach when I bought it and only works with DIRECT TV.

RE: Chevy Engines/Transmissions Approach 100% Reliability

No company, especially, this badly run, is "worth saving" with the public's tax dollars - YOU bail them out with "your dollars" if you believe in them, but the federal government doesn't have the right to do this either - apparently they can get away with it, but someone else would have stepped in and picked up the pieces. I don't care what they or others might have done in the past - this pure and simple is a political move for all the wrong reasons - and I sure don't feel the Corvette is a national treasure worthy of billions of our tax dollars - do you really believe the Corvette plant and product line wouldn't be "salvaged" by others? Let's see I'll start tomorrow managing our company badly and then ask the government for our special consideration too... This is stupid... It's all wasted money - as soon as the tax dollar support is gone, they go under anyway - their production costs are too high, bad management, and past experience with the product long term reliability has people extremely skeptical I actually like some of the newer products - why should I take the chance, or why reward poor business, or why reward political "fiscal idiots" "Homey don't think so"...
