RE: 2009 Northeast RV.NET Mid Summer Rally 7/24-26 Mystic, CT.

This morning we treated Tom & Maureen to some fried Pork Roll. Yooz guys from NE don't know what ur missin'. :) I wish I had brought enough for everyone who wanted to try it. Pork roll is a type of sausage-like meat product commonly available in and around New Jersey. In North Jersey it is usually called Taylor Ham. The product was originally developed late in the 19th century by John Taylor of Trenton, New Jersey, though several firms produce it today. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pork_roll

We got talking about discount liqueur's around the campfire last night and I couldn't remember the name of the cheap Sambuca I drink - I actually like it better than the expensive brand. It's called Sambuca Di Amore - imported from Italy. I get it for $12.99 locally. It often comes in a gift box with two fancy shot glasses for the same price. http://www.winedelight.com/liqueur_store/product_info.php?products_id=4070&zmam=6020770&zmas=1&zmac=2&zmap=11218

Left at 11:45, got home at about 4:45 as predicted. Smooth sailing (65 MPH) all the way except for a merge-jam just before VZ bridge as expected. Good thing we were on time. 1/2 an hour later and we would have hit a cell with funnel cloud sighting in Somerville. :E Great food, great fun, great people. :)

The deluge was while driving up here. About 11 PM the rain died down to a drizzle and I didn't hear it again all night. Sun is out now with some scattered dark clouds.

We are settled in at the CT Welcome Center exit 2 on I-84. There are tons of empty RV spaces but we decided to stay among the truckers. Their noise drowns out the noise of our generator. See you all tomorrow. Q

Besides, 84 will add a lot more then 20 minutes to the trip if you are coming up to CT. If coming from west, I would come 84 to 91 to 9 and avoid as much of 95 as possible.31 minute diff according to Google Maps. Being that I am west of I-287, I am coming from the west no matter which way I go. Anyway, I am actually worried about arriving too early, so if there are better choices on I-84 I don't mind the extra travel time. :C

Sadly, their are no good places to boondock off 95 in CT.Really? There must be over a dozen WalMarts along 95. They are ALL bad? What about truck stops...Pilot in Milford and TA in New Haven? I hear the exit 2 Welcome Center in Danbury is pretty good. If I go I-84 it will add 20 minutes, but I avoid I-95 almost completely which might be a plus overall.

RE: 2009 Northeast RV.NET Mid Summer Rally 7/24-26 Mystic, CT.

I have to work Thursday so we are planning to leave Thursday evening to beat the traffic and boondock somewhere in CT off I-95. Any suggestions for a good boondocking place?

RE: how should i deal with inconsiderate rv snobs

We have been camping for 15 years in a 1963 Yellowstone TT. It's pretty shabby but we got it for free. We kind of felt embarrassed too. We never noticed any bad comments or ugly looks. A few people even wanted to see the inside and relived their childhood camping experiences. No campground has turned us away. Guess we've been lucky. Now we have a 1996 Class C, We don't feel so out of place, but we still plan to camp in the TT for vintage rallies.
