RE: Flaming Gorge and Rocky Mountian NP

Don't know how you intend to get to RMNP from Flaming Gorge but don't take the road from Dutch John going east into Colo I understand it is a 14% grade. The drive to Vernal is very pictureque.
Don't believe there is a road going east into CO from Dutch John, at least not one on which you should be towing. More campground options on west side of FG..... both routes very scenic. I like the vista north of Dutch John. Pretty good descent into Vernal, be cautious.

RE: Phoenix to Zion NP

See no reason why they wouldn't be. I've motorhomed them in Jan and Feb to come to the Phoenix area for golf....though not this year, I'll admit. Can't remember them ever being impassable however. I'd use the Fredonia/Hurricane route to Zion rather than the tunnel. You might be a bit long for the tunnel.....50' total length max.

RE: Top Oregon Coast & Washington State Parks?

The short list would be parks to avoid. Offhand, though, I cannot think of many and we've been to many, many parks from NorCal to BC. Both state and county parks excellent in OR and WA.....would look at them before the commercial parks, but there are excellent commercial parks as well. There are a LOT of RV parks to look at. Even so, not easy to get a spot in a state park during the summer without a reservation. Go the the "state park" websites of both states...plenty of good info.

RE: Storage Lot Cost

Nov thru April, 300 miles south of home (where it doesn't need winterizing and is easily accessible for winter get-aways), outdoors in the middle of a senior citizen residential community with security patrol. $30 monthly. It comes home for the summer. No hook-up stuff, but lots of places plus a repair facility just outside the community entrance.

RE: Is this the place...

We have owned/operated a pet care service for nearly 20 years and we do contract with a couple of RV parks in the area to provide service for clients the same as we provide service for the resort hotels, abundant in our area. There is not a great demand I must say, but we have done a little business. I use contractors for most of the work now...not kids, but responsible adults, several who have been with us for several years.
In all our travels, we've seen a similar service offered in a few RV parks. The only one I can recall offhand is Alpine Rose in Durango, CO. We don't use such service on the road, as our dogs go pretty much everywhere with us, so haven't paid too much attention.
Were we to use such a service on the road, i would be sure the caregivers were well qualified for the job. Things can happen in a hurry with dogs.

RE: Wireless thermometer

Not sure why you want to keep it out of the weather. Mine is pretty much weather proof....I have it on rear ladder connected with a couple of plastic ties. Has worked just fine for two years now.

Yoo Hoo....a discount on elective recreation. Nice for campers. How about a discount on groceries or Depends...something whereby ALL (us) seniors benefit.

Don't you just love it when the OP asks a question and the "right" answer is an opinion? :)
Could be that in most cases there are either no right answers or many right answers.

Good news, I guess. Now, can someone remind me how us old folks have earned this? I started getting forgetful when I passed 70 a few years ago.

RE: Oregon Coast campgrounds

Oregon also has some County Parks worth searching (if the State Parks are full).
I agree. These are more difficult to research as there is no central website that I am aware of, but you can find some terrific parks (and relatively inexpensive) at the county level.

RE: Broke window in TT, now what?

My emergency window blew out (I have no idea where) on a trip to CO a couple of years ago. Learned after a phone call that replacement would cost nearly $300 installed. Glass company in Cortez CO fitted and replaced glass for $80 in about an hour. No longer an emergency escape, but didn't need that anyway as my TT is a two door unit.

RE: stop over in Salt Lake area ???

Sounds to me like you're looking for just an overnight with something to do. Lagoon would probably work for you. Most of these other places would need 2-3 days to get the most out of I would think.

RE: Emergency Road Service - Comparing Good Sam vs Coach-Net

You might throw RoadHelp in the mix. I've had for a couple of years..good price, good service and they throw in a free KOA membership. http://www.alrpost370.org/guides/F_Welcome_to_RV_Roadhelp.pdf

RE: Are you a tourist or traveler?

We, too, are travelers, tho not full time. We like our mountain summer home and rarely travel when folks with kids on the road (summer). Go 4 or five months during fall, winter, spring, however. To us, traveler and tourist pretty much the same. What we are NOT are campers. We do not sit around a campfire in a campground. We establish a base and become explorer/tourists, gone every day all day. We know an area pretty well before we leave. Been 10 years and still haven't been east of the Mississippi...a long way to go. Takes a long time to explore places like British Columbia and the Oregon/Washington coasts. Up until the last year there were still places in our own state we hadn't seen. This is no longer the case I'm happy to say.

RE: Declo, Idaho

I've driven through the RV park just to check it out...thought I was in Rupert, but Declo works. Don't recall a lot, but nothing special. Seem to recall a lot of seasonal units, but could be wrong. Other posters not wrong about City of Rocks and Castle Rock, however. Good stuff, there.

RE: Emergency exits

The more doors you have the more air &/or water leaks you may have. Most DPs have a door at the passenger seat. Some have mid-coach entrances. Many gas coaches do indeed have a driver entrance door as well as the main entry door. Now do you need 2 doors...its really a matter of personal preference!
Class Cs do indeed have more doors when rolling but once parked getting to and out of those doors is not the easiest exit...the main entrance door is the quickest and safest means of getting out or a window.
I think many people who are 1st time motorhome buyers are intimidated by the layout of a DP or Gas coach with a different door arrangement than a passenger vehilce...This is not a mini van with 5 exit doors. Go for a ride in several and sit to think about what you'd do in the event of an emergency both when rolling and when parked. I think you'll find that insecurity might ease after you realize...with all this glass and an "emergency exit glass hammer"...there are at least 9 ways to get out of a motorhome.
If its a matter of safety...all coaches have emergency exit windows in the back and in fact most larger windows can be openned up wide enough, screens easily removed for exist. But. as we all know...getting out one and down to the ground easily...might be more than most of us could handle.
Well, I appreciate all this info. You're right, guess we have to experience the situation to appreciate, though I must admit that some of this seems like rationalization. I have towed a TT for MANY years, my tow vehicle has 5 doors and my trailer two doors and I have no air/water leaks. And I would much rather walk out a door than pop or break out a window. The research will continue.......

Emergency exits

Thinking about going self-propelled here in a couple of years. My wife likes lots of doors. Are there class A units with driver/passenger doors? She really doesn't like the fact that there are no doors up front....so, we look at a lot of Class C units. Our TT has two doors and it was a prerequisite. Any suggestions on how we can get around this?
