RE: heavy GVWR towing, at what speeds do you do?

Towing two or three thousand pounds over your rating will tend to make you feel a little underpowered. Good luck / Skip

RE: RVs vs. bears in the Smokies and GWNF

I've SEEN a few bears in the Smokies and Blueridge but they run away as soon as they get any attention. Might hassle someone in a tent if they didn't keep a clean camp but no reason for anyone in an RV to be concerned much.

RE: Why do we have so many Ladybugs???

Comes from fall camping in this part of the country. In the autumn they look for a place to spend the winter and an RV makes a pretty good one.

RE: Fridge too cold

Some folks find it beneficial to run a 12 volt powered fan inside the fridge to even out the temperature. I'm guessing that certain AREAS of your fridge tend to freeze more than others. They also make some battery powered fans but not sure about battery life on those.

RE: Altitude and Western National Parks

Have you considered carrying auxiliary oxygen supply? Not much you can do about the altitude but it might make it more tolerable for you.

RE: Flag Etiquette

Sounds more like a political statement rather than an RVing issue to me.

RE: battery overcharges - boils out water - what do you do?

Under normal circumstances you shouldn't be seeing any more than charge rates in the 13 volt range. 15 is too high and it's probably the reason you're overcharging the battery. It's possible that your converter isn't switching to the lower charge rate like it should when a battery is fully charged.

RE: dead battery question

Never hurts to TRY to charge it but it's not likely to do any good if it was flattened and KEPT flat over the winter months. If you disconnect the negative lead from the battery next time it's our of service it'll keep it from going flat.

RE: Fridge too cold

Slide the thermister to the bottom of the fin. If that doesn't do it you may benefit from a fan to circulate air inside the fridge.

RE: New to weight bearing & Sway Control

I've been using the Reese Straight Line system for 60,000 towing miles with my Rockwood and F-150. Now I'm also using it with my F-250. Can't beat it. Good luck / skip

RE: A tragic reminder to be careful

It's ridiculous to work under ANY vehicle on a jack. That's what they make jack STANDS for. It's a hard way to pay for doing something EVERYONE knows is dumb.

RE: Figures.......

Thunder storms are usually of short duration and shouldn't ruin your whole weekend. Just sit them out and spend the OTHER 95% of the time enjoying the outdoors.

RE: Upscale RV Resorts - Why Not More Places?

Many areas have so many fantastically beautiful NATURAL parks that the ones built by man just come in a distant second.

RE: best quality low-end travel trailer & internet warranty

I've only owned two of the brands you're looking at so can't comment on the others. The Rockwood by Forest River is a great value. We towed our Rockwood over 40,000 miles before it needed its first repair of any kind. The two year warranty is nice but we didn't need ours (that's the BEST kind of warranty). We owned a Coachman also but that was before it was purchased by Forest River. It was a good but basic trailer. I currently also own a Jayco but it's a pop up and in a different category than the travel trailers. The Jayco pop up is a whole bunch of steps below the quality level I'd have expected but it was purchased used so it may have been some better until someone got hold of it. I spend more time working on it than it spends in a campground. Good luck with your search / Skip BTW: concerning your last part about Internet dealers and warranty work. WE purchased the Rockwood from RV Direct and as stated before, didn't ever NEED any warranty work but we've never had any problem finding places to help us when we needed it. Had a truck poke a hole in the back of the trailer in a rest area and had our local dealer take care of the repairs (paid for by insurance). No reason to fear warranty work either since any dealer that's any GOOD at doing maintenance or repair on an RV makes good money from doing it. If they're NOT any good they may not like taking on any more warranty work than they have to because they'll only be paid for it once. I'd avoid any dealer that won't perform warranty work on ANY RV that requests it.

RE: Julian Price BRP North Carolina

WE've camped there before in our 34 footer. Of course there are MORE sites for smaller RVs. Good luck / Skip

RE: 60 mph sticker

What purpose would it serve? the speed limit in MOST states is at least 65 on Interstate highways and often 70 or even more. I realize that there are a few states who have a lower speed limit for trailers or trucks but your sign will be incorrect MOST places you go. It ALSO won't effect anyone else unless they also are towing a trailer. Guess I'm just having problems understanding what the purpose is.

RE: Is the E350 an upgrade from a F150?

The E-350 is also available with the V-10 engine and an 18,000 plus GCVWR. They're not all alike. The F-150 is also available with a 17,000 lb. GCVWR. They're not all alike either. Whether it's an upgrade or not depends on what's important to you.

RE: Re-use wheel grease seals?

I can afford the fifty cents for new ones. Don't want grease on my brakes.
