Probably a dumb question. My MH is probably like most other RV's, I connect a garden hose to a fitting to fill the fresh water tank. Is there some other way that I can pour a small amount of bleach, or other fresh water treatment into the tank? What about winterizing? How do you get the RV antifreeze in the tank w/o a fill point?

Re. RV antifreeze.....
I never put it in the fresh water tank, just remove the fresh water tank drain plug and empty the tank. You save yourself a lot of work.

Empty your black and grey tanks and then add RV antifreeze to each tank. I use a gallon in each tank.

Go to your RV parts store and buy an air pressure to water line fitting for when you are ready to winterize. This goes on at the water line input connection after you drain you water tank, so you can blow out the water lines with air pressure.

Open just one water value at a time, and put air pressure through the lines.

Be sure to put a pint of antifreeze in each sink and shower drain trap.

For sanitiziing the water tank, I fill the tank first, then add a gallon of water with a cup (??) of bleach through the water fill port, using a very long gooseneck oil funnel. Then I drive the rig to mix this solution with the full tank, and drain, followed by a vinegar rinse to get rid of the bleach taste.

On our older motorhome, I'd add 1 cup of Clorox to a gallon of water and add it to the same place you add fresh water to. I've never tried to do that to this new one we have.

The only tanks I add clorox to on this motorhome is the holding tanks, to clean them out one in awhile.

To get all the water out of you tanks and lines, you can use air pressure to blow it out. They make a adaptor for that. And it will get all the water out of the tanks and the lines.

If I add Anti Freeze it's to the holding tanks only the gray and black, during the winter.

We've never really winterized except add a little Anti Freeze to the gray and black holding tanks during the winter.
My husband said this year we will winterize it.

i dont have any access to my fresh water tank at all. i only can fill with the hose connection and turn the valve. i find it very difficult to fill with a funnel because of the check valve at the hose connection, so i use a drill pump to pump antifreeze into the tank.

I suggest you follow arnco's method but use a funnel with a short bent hose to pour it into the intake port for your on-board fresh water tank. After it is in, slosh it around a bit by rocking your rig, then let it sit overnight before you drain it and refill it. I do't think you wnat to drink water with clorine in it or some other chemical.

Dont put undiluted bleach in, first mix about a cup or less with a gallon of water. Then pour it into the fresh water fill, not the city water hookup because that bypasses the fresh water tank. One way to get it in there(maybe not the best way) is to use a funnel to fill an empty hose, then attach the hose to a water outlet and turn it on as you normally fill the tank.

You note not to put undiluted bleach in the tank..Why? I have been doing that for five years now with no problems. When I put water in it dilutes it..After dilution, I run some through all the pipes. Dump, flush when taking out of storage. Carl.

Have worked on cars most of my life but with these new ones I seem to be getting dumber and dumber. The more I learn, the more I need to learn. I was taught old-school tactics and have many stories to tell. I also have what I think are good ideas.

How often do you use the bleach in the fresh water? Mine is almost two years old and I've never done it.

I just read this thread regarding bleach in your fresh water tank. Is this something you add regularly? I use my TT about once a month and the fresh water tank sits with water all that time. I think I should put something in the tank to kill the bacteria that surely must be growing in there. I never use the water for drinking...just washing my face and flushing the toilet. Any advice?
Thanks.

Now that I've discovered sodium dichlor crystals (spa water chlorinating concentrate) with its absence of Clorox's aftertaste and high salt content, sanitizing has become much easier.

First of all they sell tablets to chlorinate your water system. second id you put baking soda in after you have chlorinate your tank it will get rid of yourchlorine taste. 1 cup of bleach for every 40 gallons of water is the formala. Let it sit for 4hrs drain put baking soda in the rinse. Then refill tank ready to go. Besure to sterlize your pipes to.

I have 2 short rv hoses that join together with a cooling system
flush tee. I hook up the ends to the filtered water outlet and the tank inlet, take off the tee cap and pour in the bleach mixture, about 1/4 cup diluted in a quart of water, replace the tee cap and turn on the hose to the empty tank and run the water for about 3 minutes. I have a fairly steep ramp in the rv building, I pull the coach out and back in a few times to slosh the water.
