IMO you are not spending money, you are making memorys.
It is the memories that are important, and will be yours thru the years, long after the cost is forgotten.
Exactly, when on a trip, bugger the bank and have fun.
Even so, Sir, I doubt that you are extravagant.
& I, I took the road less travelled by.

I remember all the years when our Canadian dollar was so low (one year we got only about 50 cents) and people told us we were crazy to go with the RV south -- but we went (and it did hurt at times) but looking back we only think how do you put a price tag on wonderful times and memories.

I found it prudent to utilize a "Marital Harmony Factor" of 30% - this means that if you spend $9,000 you only admit to $6,000 ....

How do you guys manage to spend so much!
On my visit to Canada this year I calculated my cost as being $65 per day, this includes campground fees, fuel and some resturant meals. This is over 35 days and 6000KMs in a class C.
I don't bother with grocery cost since you will spend this at home anyway.
All this was in a rental unit and if I add the cost of the rental I still only get to $185 a day.
Maybe the best thing to do is to stay away from Banff and Jasper and save a few bucks!

You were not travelling far each day on $65 -- one stop at a Canadian gas station and you have already spent $65 (at least) !

Thats not too bad, we spent $2k easily in Canada, and we were there only 2 weeks, 1/2 that cost was gas. Try flying to some other places, costs could easily be a lot more. Doesn't really seem like that much $$$ over that time span. Hope you had fun.

Well, when the Loonie was LOW and the US Dollar was HIGH and the exchange rates were terrible....thousands of us came down and spent our cash.....we whined and complained and looked for the deals and anything we could get free.....Its Your Turn...You will undoubted have just as much fun as we did and be happy that you did it.....

Actually it shocked us that so much was spent. Locally the price of diesel fuel is now $3.49 gallon and will be much higher by next summer.
Looks like we will take a much harder look at our camping plans next year.
Happy trails,
Wow. We spent 117 days (mid May to mid Sept.) traveling from the west coast to St. John's NF, NS, PEI, NB, Maine then across the US with extended stays in the Black Hills and Yellowstone. Total distance traveled just over 15,000 miles. Total distance towing a 28E33SB Titanium 52er with a 01 Dodge CTD, 10,800 miles. Total fuel bill, $4380 CAD. Total for campsites, $3490 CAD. We stayed in an RV park or National Park campground every night except one. Couldn't find a park so we did Walmart for the first and only time. CAD was worth about .95 US at the time.
That came to a total of $7880 CAD for fuel and camping for a trip of a lifetime which I thought was pretty reasonable. We would still be eating and a lot of that other stuff if we stayed home for the summer so we don't include it as a vacation expense.
