Ok... I received my Vin number for our 35 RLTS from RV Direct and they have sent me all the paperwork to sign. They included the paperwork for the extended warranty/insurance through Phoenix American Warranty Co. I know nothing about them and wanted to get some feed back. The cost is $1795 and it's for 7 years with a $100 deductable. The call the coverage "Diamond" (Exclusionary Plan under what is not covered) Means what? Anyway... is it good? is the Cost good and should I work to get a $0 Deductable. Thanks in advance for everyone's comments.

Congrats on the new rig. Have the same model and really like it. As far as the warranty, your rig comes with a 2 year from Jayco. So of the 7 years, you will only get 5. Might want to do some research on the warranty to find out exactly what is covered.

Extended warranties are a waste of money. Put the $1800 dollars in an interest bearing bank account or CD.

had a engine replaced under a ext. warranty. total cost 7000.00 dollars, my cost 50.00. same warranty replaced our refer, cost 1100.00, my cost 50.00, along with a hot water heater, total cost 500.00, my cost 50.00.
cost of warranty, 1400.00. so lets see 1400.00 plus 150.00 my deductable so out of pocket cost 1550.00 bucks. total cost of repairs, 8500.00. would love to know what interest bearing bank acct or cd that would pay that kind of interest and that was over a 7 year period.
in todays repair shops where they are charging 115.00 a hour, a simple short somewhere could take them hours to find and hundreds just for labor. warranties are ins. never use it and its a waste of money. use it once for a major repair and its the best thing you ever bought.
heck i paid 10's of thousands over the years for car ins. and never had a claim, guess that was all a waste of money.
in this day and age and costs would never be without a ext. warranty.

FWIW-
We also bought from RV Direct, we passed on their warranty and bought a 7 year from Warranty Experts for less that $700. Some folks have had some issues with Warranty Experts in how their contract was farmed out (they are a broker), but in our case it was handled appropriately as we verified that aspect. They (Warranty Experts) will refund the fee at the end of the 7 years if you don't use it (you have to request it at the correct time). The absolute worst case if we never use the warranty and for some reason do not get the money back is < $700. I figure with the several thousand dollar savings by buying from RV Direct, I could take that chance. Plus, if I did have a major issue (fridge for example), it would be covered. The only thing I didn't like about Warranty Experts was their advertisement of a "free cruise" if you bought. It ain't free, it would have been about $250 per person to cover the "port fees, etc".
On a more general note about extended warranties... we have had 3 service calls on a dishwasher, and 2 on a side-by-side fridge under an extended warranty. We just purchased a new washer and dryer from Lowes yesterday for about $1400, when they offered an extended warranty (bumper to bumper) for both for $159, it was a no-brainer for us. $159 is cheap insurance for a total of 5 years of coverage for a washer and dryer.
Anyhow, to each their own, but these are our thoughts.

Extended warranty is just an insurance policy, and these offer substantial profits for the selling agent. Of that $1795 Rv Direct wants, they will keep about $1000. Like any insurance policy, its a good deal if you use it, but just look how it works. It spreads the risks (cost of repairs) of very few to the costs of insurance to many. Its just like a lottery, the math doesn't work in your favor. And to make matters worse, some of those extended warranties are so carefully worded that many claims are denied that would otherwise be covered. Read the policy, not the sales brochure.

I love the comment that, Warranty Experts will refund the cost of the policy if you don't use it. That is one of the items that they are under investigation for, by the Texas Dept of Public safety. I don't really think Warranty Experts will be around in 5 years to refund any money, as all of them will be in prison, for fraud and theft of customers money. Check their standing with the San Antonio BBB and the Texas DPS before giving them any money, I think it will change anyone's mind.

Although I believe that extended warranties are usually a safe bet, I would stay away from Phoenix/American. I've had one of their warranties and their method of doing business is to delay and deny. Then claim that you did not get the claim approved before hand or that it should be covered by some other insurance policy.

This the best advice of all. There are all kinds of horror stories about trying to collect from these after market insurers. They usually deny payment because of some loophole.

If you feel the need for an extended warranty(insurance), seek it out yourself. I would not buy it through the selling dealer and I would certainly not finance the cost. I bought an extended Ford factory backed warranty for my new truck, got the best deal myself by shopping via internet. Paid about half what the selling dealer's best offer was. You can do the same. Almost $2,000 seems awfully high for an rv.
