With my Duramax, I get 14 towing my 17ft Bigfoot, when I tow my boat I get 10. the boat weighs 10k plus. This takes in account going from 1200 ft to 7200.It is a lot better downhill.

we tow w/a 99 GMC AWD Safari 4.3 ltr vortec v6 w/3.73 ratio. when we had the 10 ft popup, 15-22 mpg depending on the terrain.
Now 18ft box ultralight (a little over 20ft w/tongue)Our maiden voyage in October going through 3 mountain passes coming/going we averaged 10.9 mpg (I round that to 11 mpg) we kept to the speed limit and was slow going up the passes but we did lots better than expected in that terrain. I was expecting a 6-8 mpg average towing. It will be fun to see what the mpgs on a flatland trip will be.
So I'm hoping the van lasts another 5 years. It has been a good tow vehicle, comfortable for travel and not so bad for touring around when setup at camp.

There's more to it than size. A lot of it is due to aerodynamics. With a traditional 8' wide tall travel trailer, I always got between 8 and 9 MPG towing with a mid size engined tow vehicle. I went to an ultralite tht was 7.5' wide, much lower to the ground with a an aerodynamic front end and I get around 11 MPG towing it with a larger V8 engine. It's easier to pull a bar of soap through the air than it is a brick.

Actually, its a lot off topic and not constructive in any way to the original poster... thanks.

I get 11 MPG with my Ford Ranger with the 3.0 v6 towing the Fleetwood Terry 20 foot trailer pictured in my signature.
I also use a Chevrolet Silvarado 1500 Crew Cab with a 5.3 V8 to tow the trailer on trips through the rockies.
It gets 11 MPG towing the trailer, same as my small truck.
I don't think it matters much what the length of the trailer is, it is all about overcoming the wind resistance.

I'm just curious why you wouldn't use the bigger truck all the time if it gets the same millage?

I agree with the Fish slow down to 55 or 60 and the gas mileage goes up. I see it towing the same 27' Keystone.
