Greetings;
We just returned from the Vet's Clinic. According to the Vet our has some sort of tummy (intestine) bacteria - likely from something it ate at the beach or in our RV Park. Go figure! *Maggie is now on meds for the bacteria problem - but still has a high fever.
What can be done to help lower the fever? She only wants to sleep and refuses to drink; i.e. water. Any suggestions, recommendations and advise is very much apreciated. Tkx. in advance.
p.s. The only time Maggie tried to drink - it made her sick!!

The fever is the way the germs are killed, since dogs don't sweet, cool her ears that's where there is a lot of blood flowing. It should help. They sometime like chewing crushed ice too. I think there normal temperature is 103 degrees F so feeling warm to you at 98.6 or so is normal. Good Luck!

I would call the vets office to see what they recommend. Our vet only allows dogs to have coated aspirin. No Tylenol or Advil.

I thought normal temp was around 101 degrees, not sure just know it's higher than ours.
I have only experienced this a couple of times cooling the ears did seem to help, baby aspirin only and shaved ice which our dogs love.
Other than that and what the vet has given you there's not a lot more you can do.
Did your vet not recommend an aspirin, did Maggie have the fever while at the vets, if not I would strongly recommend you call them.
Good luck and keep us posted.

you can use a cool damp rag and apply to the pads of her feet.

The temperature regulation is not as exact as people, normal varies between 100.5-102.5. On hot days, I'll see a normal healthy (but panting) dog with a temp of 103-103.5 and don't get too excited about it.
If the temp doesn't come down within several hours, your vet may consider adding another antibiotic to the one he's on. Ususlly temps below 103-104 don't need to be cooled with extra procedures.

Well hello again;
Here's an update on Maggie - our 15 month old Peek-a-Poo who came down with a fever and paid a visit to a Vet. With antibiotics (two) different types taken once a day she is making progress. The fever is gone and other then sleeping a lot - Maggie seems to returning to her regular self.
Thanks to all for you valuable assistance and advice.
