Hi
We will be leaving Nogales on March 4 to travel to Kino Bay, this is our first trip and would love to be able to tag along with someone who has done this before. So if you can help we would appreciate it.

Hi you guys ~ If no one comes forward to fit your schedule, you could just hang out at KM 21 and ask the folks coming out with their new FMT's (immigration document) where they are going in Mexico. Chances are, you will not have to wait long to find folks heading that way. With or without their permission, you could follow them. IMHO, it really is not necessary. You'll find good roads all the way. I do however recommend the truck bypass around Hermosillo as opposed to driving through town.
Best regards,
Larry

Hi,
The roads from Nogales to Kino Bay are good except in Hermasillo itself.
Take the west bypass and follow the traffic... not all signage for the construction area is good, but if you ask, most people will be glad to help. Major construction right where Mex16 and the bypass meet.
Once on Mex16, the road is good and not much traffic...
Temps yesterday were in the low 80s.......

We are leaving Nogales on the 1st and will be heading to Uruapan. The wife is in a hurry to see her family so we will not likely be stopping for more then a night at each stop until we get there. On our return trip we plan to slow things down and spend a couple of days at each of the locations we decided to stop, what they will be is still open because we don't want to have a strict schedule.

Had dinner last night across from a couple who had recently returned from Kino Bay. They said the road was wavy once you get off the toll road. Took them 1 1/2 hours to get the last 12 miles because they thought their rig was going to fall apart.
They also said the nearest grocery is 80 miles away (except for convenience store and occasional produce vendor), so you may want to stock up before you get that far.
Good luck.

Statements like this, are how false information gets started:
"Had dinner last night across from a couple who had recently returned from Kino Bay. They said the road was wavy once you get off the toll road. Took them 1 1/2 hours to get the last 12 miles because they thought their rig was going to fall apart.

We are in Kino and have traveled the roads, so here is the truth. The truck route, the mine road, Periferico, what ever you want to call the road around west Hermosillo, is in good condition and not wavy and this was last week. The road from Hermosillo to Kino is new(2 years old) and is a typical Mexican toll road, without the toll. True, the closest super WalMart is in Hermosillo, but there is a decent grocery store in Calle Doce called Super Val and it has good prices, selection and meats. In actuality, the convenience stores here, called Super T's, have a selection of most everything and their prices are comparable to Walmart. Veggies are available in all stores but yes we have the veggie truck that comes right to you with an excellent choice, at a price cheaper than Walmart. There is a decent meat market in Old Kino where the meat is good and the price is great.
These people were evidently some that come down here and expected to be in the US or Canada and that it is not. If people didn't like it, that's fine say so.

They must have stayed at New Horizon, a beautiful and private park 10 miles north of Kino. The road is dirt and can take a hour or more at times to travel. There is a short-cut back to town if you have a off-road vechile. The rest of the RV Parks in Kino have great roads. The road from the Toll Road only has a small area of twist and turn just after after you leave the Toll Road IF you take the short-cut. It is still a very good road. There are small markets in Kino but major markets are about 80 miles away. Only trip easier is to Rocky Point.

If you're in Mexico you should try cooking Mexican. That's half the fun of visiting a foreign country.
That's what I do and I don't have to worry about what's in the local stores. If the locals can survive, so can I. There are plenty of little mom-and-pop stores in old Kino, so if you can't find something, just go to the next one.
In Kino, I eat a LOT of seafood and fresh veggies, most bought off the truck vendors that come through the park or the fishermen at the municipal pier.

Any one who does not like the road to Kino should just stay home. We are thousands of miles south of Kino and I dont think there is a free road as fine as the one to Kino. Wavy, I dont think so. This is Mexico and if one needs better roads than this you need a new rig!!

Wavy??? Do you suppose they meant curvy? The road they spoke of is curvy as it goes over the hills/mountains, but has a good surface.
