My wife and I have been fulltiming for about 9 months. We currently have residence in Kansas (at a USP Store). I have been working in California since last July and now my company wants us to go to Austin, TX area for up to a year.

Kansas has high income and vehicle taxes. We figured this would be a good time to change state of residence since Texas has no income tax.

Are there any real drawbacks to Texas residency?

Thanks,

Rich

The people think TX is the center of the universe. That is where I went to college.

Welcome to the Great State of Texas. We have great weather, great people, beautiful scenery, etc. However, there are some disadvantages living in the Austin area, traffic is horrendous and that is where that other school is located.

Yeah Texas is the only place in the world where you can stand in mud and have sand blowing in your face. Also look out for mosquitoes they are so big that during WWII they were attacking B29's with rape on their minds..AF sent me there a couple time always liked it..Nice folks.

When we became fulltimers, we considered making Texas our state of residence. However, we found health insurance rates higher in Texas, so we are Florida residents. If you buy your own health insurance, remember to check rates in all states you are considering.

After living in California, your money will go a LOT further here. Austin and the Hill Country are wonderful (other than the traffic on I-35). Where do you plan to park your RV?
