I am going to get a new generator for our class C. It has a Generac and it been nothing but trouble. It runs on propane because our MH is diesel. I have had it work on twice and still no good. Now what should I get. It has to run on diesel or propane. Where the best price for a generator also? I am tired of trying to repair the generac.

Is this mounted in the MH? If so, I recommend an Onan as a replacement. They aren't cheap. Google for prices for the size you want - 4kw would probably be right for you. New ones will probably be $3k plus.

You may find it best to look for a similar generator to the one you have. A small diesel generator less than 4000 would be over $4000. Maybe you can find a used one on eBay or Craig's list.
Your diesel tank will need 2 outlets for the generator

Do you know if your Generac was a variable speed unit? If so I had one, a 3.5KW unit on a Truck camper, and it worked fine, what type of troubles did you have?
If your convinced you need a diesel, get a 4 to 6KW Onan, with a 3 cyl. liquid cooled Yanmar diesel, there a great unit, but it will cost you a bunch. Generac also makes a RV diesel generator.

They have Kubota engines.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. My generac has worked fine. I don't like the fact it is a constant speed of 3,600 rpm. Your fuel limits your choices. There are no cheap solutions

Big Redneck, Looks like we are having the save issues. I have a 96' scotty and the gen(generac propane) has no problem running but no power and no muffler. Just to get a guy out here is $185 and another $125+ for a muffler. I am still on the fence on to either fix it or buy another one. I searched on the internet and there are all in the $2000+ range for a box RV LP Gen. even the used ones they want $1500+. So pull out your $$$$ if you can. I can not so I have been toying with the idea of Used, Reg gas gen's, and even something like fitting in a Champion or like.

Good luck and happy Spending, Robert.

Not knowing all the details, and I'm assuming that Generac isn't under warranty any more? Have you written to the company anyway? Maybe it's a problem that they are aware of??

You may find that you'd do better with a small/portable Honda. It won't have the power of the Generac, but it would be quiet, cheaper, and dependable. You'd also have to carry gas, unless they make a diesel or LP unit?
You could also buy two, which would allow you to run one for the A/C, and the other as needed for other things...
Just a thought...

I called the factory and they sent me to Canton,Ohio and they charge me 500 bucks and when I fot home it still hard to start. Then in a month it was harder to start. Now won't start. The starter is going bad now.I have a extra one in my car trailer that works fine when I have the trailer on the rear. But I am not pulling the trailer and it to big for the camper.I anve just about given up on it. I have spent over 1000 on it and still a pile of junk.
