Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all the replys, so far there has not been one negative about the model or the company, that's good news.
Yes, they are a little heavier than some other models, but I have an 03 Dodge dually, so I'm not too worried. It is just about out of warrenty now so I will probably make some mods before we take off (air intake, muffler, and computer).
Again, my thanks for all your thoughts and comments,
Mike

The lightest pin weight of all is 2750#...and that is empty. No 2500 series truck with a diesel engine could carry the pin weight alone of any of these trailers and remain with in GVWR.
CardinalCamper is right, it needs at least a dually, maybe more.
Beg to differ, Stripit weighs RVs and has vast knpwledge of Suites. If he says a 3/4 will handle it, it will.
The low weight you posted is more than my Mobile Suites.
The weights I quoted are directly from the brochure for Select Suites...we looked at them last month. Sure a 3/4 diesel can 'pull' it, but no way can it stay within the truck's GVWR.

I toured Newmar, Carriage, Travel Supreme and Double Tree in January of 2005. My opinion at the time was Double Tree had the best construction and details that made sense. That being said I ended up with a Newmar product that was a close out and price made settling for 2nd best at the time a decision that I could live with. I have had moments of regret but need to own current rig another 1-2 years. I continue to look at all of the listed brands and have seen changes for the worse in most of them except Double Tree. I plan to tour the KZ Escalade plant this year as I think it may also be worth considering. Randy

We looked seriously at those 5ers. They are very nice and very well built. We ruled them out because they would take a 3500 dually as a minimum, most likely something bigger to stay within the specs for the truck.

I have to say, most of my weigh sheets are for the 31 & 34 ft Select Suites. Those are defiantly 2500 series truck capable, looking at the 1 36 ft Select that was towed by a 2500 series truck it was right at the limit of that truck. Sorry for any confusion on my part about the different length trailers and how heavy they were.

Hi Mike, We have a 2007 36tk3 select suite and we love it! We lived in it all winter ( Arizona) some nights were very cold and we were very comfortable. We pull it with a 3/4 chevy diesel/ allison transmisson with no problem at all. If we could make any changes it would be solid wood cabinets, and full body paint.

Hi Patrick
Thanks for the info. We just purchased a new Select Suites from a dealer in Wisconsin (saves us about $4k in transportation costs to the west coast). We leave here in mid-June to go get it.
We were looking at both the Doubletree and Alpenlite units, thank goodness we didn't choose the Alpenlite, that company just went legs up a couple of weeks ago. We have some friends the bought an Alpine Coach and are having trouble getting it out of the factory now.
Where did you stay in Arizona? My son lives in north Phoenix, we will not be staying there this winter, but are looking for a place to stay when we go. Our plans are to hit the Atlantic provinces of Canada, the east coast and Florida this year.
Take care, Mike

C320, apparantly you haven't learned that the mdfg sheets on the units are totally inaccurate. I pull a Double Tree 36tk3 with a 2003 GMC 2500HD with Duramax and allison. I've been pulling this rig for four years and when I took it across the scales at the end of last year's trip, it weighed in at 13,300. That makes the king pin weight about 1770. I have never seen a rig that was weighed out properly or accurately from the factory.

The only thing you need from the manufacturer's spec sheet is GVWR, which is 17000 for a new 36TK3. If you are at 13.3, that means your trailer is empty; if your PW is 1770, you are about 225 below the minimum recommended for any PW (15% or 1995). You can justify it all you want, a 2500 is not enough truck for a Doubletree.

Mike: Before you spend a lot of money on performance improvements for the Dodge, tow your Select for a couple of trips as there are folks towing these and heavier Mobile/Elites quite happily with trucks like yours.
My personal opinion is: for my Mobile Suites 38RL3, which is heavier than your select, I would happily (in spite of the weight police) be towing today with a 1 ton dually if it weren't for the Harley barn on the back of the truck as a "necessity"!
Today is just the tomorrow you worried about yesterday!
