We made it home August 3 after another great Alaska trip. The sockeye never seemed to come on strong in Soldotna, at least when we were there, but we just had 30# of fillets delivered overnight UPS form the processor yesterday. Saw lots of black bear, moose, caribou, and grizzlies although Hyder had a late run of chum...should be hoppin with fish and bears now. We will be back and will spend more time when we retire....3 weeks is just too short!

Here are a few pictures I took in 2006 just to get you warming up for your trip. If you go to the Kenia Pen. go to Homer. Visit the Salty Dawg Saloon....very interesting. Take the airplane trip to the Katmia Nat'l Reserve and see the big brown bear.

We have made it to Denali after spending 2 days in Talkeetna, looking at the mt. It has been clear & we landing on Ruth Glacier with K2. Today we went into Denali NP on what turned our to be a 9 hour trip. What a great day. Lots of animals & good weather. Light rain as we got back to camp. On to River's Edge tomorrow & a run to the circle on Saturday

Hi everyone,

We too have had a great trip in Alaska this summer. Flylipsdaddy...it was great running into you and Therese at Lake Louise. Its a small world.

We are currently in Tok, and will be making our way south to the Lower 48. Our plan is to drive the Cassiar Hwy. but a number of RV'ers have indicated its in bad shape. We drove it 3 years ago and enjoyed it. For those who used the Cassiar, can you offer some information on its current condition?

Thanks in advance,

Kathy P.

We actually thought the Cassier was better this year than three years ago. There were some rough spots at the top and one fairly long stretch of dirt, before Dease Lake, but after Dease Lake just one short spot (a few miles) of dirt and the rest is good. We did have dry weather for our drive across this year instead of the rain we had three years ago.

I agree with Bobbie, most of the Cassier Hwy. was pretty good. It's good to be back in the lower 48.

Have fun.

We also did the Cassiar hwy late June this year. Just the few rough spots at the N end, otherwise no complaints. We did not rush. Did it in 4 days. We found the nothern roads, as a whole, nowhere near as bad as the reputation would have them.

Home again. Almost 3 months on the road. Over 12000kms touring the North. Drove to Inuvik, and flew to Tuktoyuktuk. No flat tires. (BF's on the truck, Duro's on the 5th). Covered all the major highways. Top of the World, Dempster, Alaska, Cassier Etc. What a trip! What great Countries!

Hooked up in Rivers Edge for 3 nights in Fairbanks. 70+ degree weather, no clouds, sat out side to eat last night. We had a great trip in Denali, lots of animals & a good view of the mountain. Spent yesterday afternoon in downtown. After 3 stores I finally got a gold pan for our granddaughter. Went to the Tanana Valley farmers market & then back to Creamer Field to view the Sandhill Cranes & Canada geese. We took a long walk with a birding group, I don't think that we fit in but it was the annual Sandhills Crane festival. Lunch in downtown & a visit to Pioneer Park. Late this afternoon laundry & our son took Marty to the base to shop, so much cheeper. Museums tomorrow & on toward the top of the world on Monday
