We are looking at being in Banff the middle of August. Equipment in my signature. Is there a campground that you would suggest. Don't need full hook ups. Electric might be nice, not mandatory. We will be without hookups for the previous stops at Yellowstone and Galcier. We do plan on driving up to Jasper while in the neighborhood. Thanks for the help. Jim

On the way to Banff we like stopping at Peter Lougheed Provincial Park. Clicky

The Tunnels campgrounds in Banff are very large, we like Two Jack Lakeside which is located out of the city a litter further than the Tunnels. Sites are not big, but the view is. Clicky

Johnston Canyon Campground is West of Banff on the way to Lake Louise. Again, it is a smaller campground. Clicky

the camp grounds in banff is call tunnel mountain. there one that has hook up and one that dont .the nonhookup. i dont think you get in there they let the tree grow in big time.check these web out (www.pccamping.ca) (www.banff.ca). hay just down the road from banff about a hour or so there a place call Kananaskis country. we go and stay in elkwood in peter lougheed provincial park. there about 7 or 10 different camp grounds in this park and there is paved bike trails to all the camping .it is far nicer then banff by that my opine. banff is cool too dont get me wrong. (www.kananaskicountrycampgrounds.com). the rocky mountain are the cools place on earth. both place have thousand of different thing to do and see.

I like Two Jack Main, it's huge with almost 400 sites. No hookups though. It's about 5 miles from town whereas Tunnel Mtn. is right there at the edge of town. If you need hookups it is alright, only not as much privacy.

Are any of the campsites between Lake Louise and Jasper have sites that would be large enough for 35 ft motorhome, and what about Johnson Canyon?

WE much prefer the cg at Lake Louise - electric hookups, good water and large dump site. It is more central for exploring Banff National Park with your tow vehicle. Be sure to take a day and go over the hill to Yoho Park - Emarld lake and takkakaw falls especially. For the best scenery and cahnces for wildlife use highway 1A rather than the Trans-Canada (#1) between Banff and L. Louise.
A great day drive is to make the circle tour to Kootenay National Park and the Columbia River Valley through Radium and Golden.
The road between L. Louise and Jasper is short enough that you can easily do it in one day, with lots of time to stop and admire the sights (Bo Lake - Num-Ti-Jah Lodge, Peyto Lake at Bow Summit, the Icefields, etc.
You will need reservations at that time of year and don't forget your passports for all, with health certificates for the pet.
Enjoy.

We used to stay at Castle Mountain (between Banff & L.Louise) with our 30.5 fifth wheel. The sites are unserviced but it is much more scenic than Tunnel Mountain (which is really just some paved roads through a moderately scenic forest). I wouldn't be afraid to go back to Castle Mountain with our current rig so you shouldn't have any trouble there - you won't fit in every site but you should be able to find one that fits. We always tried to get there before about 3:00 PM to ensure we got a good selection of sites.

Johnstons Canyon campground is not for large vehicles. Very small sites with very small roads. And no hook ups.

I would suggest calling ahead to make sure the campground you intend to stay in can accomodate your size.
