My wife and I are searching for the right fifth wheel for our famiy. I have 2 kids (3 and under) and are focusing on a bunkhouse model, preferrably quad bunks (family guests). I have been given some advice to not get anything over 32 feet. Any floorplans you can recommend? Also, Is there a big difference in adding a few feet? (i.e. 32 to 35 feet?). This would be our first fifth wheel.
Thank you!

I suggest spending a lot of time looking at different models. There are tons of options at many different price ranges. I would suggest you looking at a toy hauler 5th wheel - especially with kids. We are on our 3rd camper and currently have a 5th wheel toyhaluer (Fuzion 362). By far, our toyhaluer has been the best for us - we can carry our golf cart, bikes, all the kids toys. We clear out the garage and drop down the queen bunk beds for kids bedroom. Also, we can close the door and kids have their space - no noise for the adult side. However, our Fuzion is 39 ft - to me it's not that much harder to handle than a smaller camper. Backing is a little more dificult.
Good luck .

why not over 32 feet? Also a big part of the decision is your tow vehicle, will it pull it? We bought the keystone laredo 32rs loved the floor plan, but you have to make sure whatever you pick you can tow.

Biggest difference about going longer is getting around in older parks, and what size tow vehicle.
We have 3 kids and looked at bunk houses, but couldn't bring ourselves to do it. Our previous travel trailer had a huge living area and we did lots of fun family stuff in there when it rained etc. The bunkhouses would barely sit our faimly let along guest. For us, sleeping was less of an issue than the rest of the day when guest came to visit etc. Our 3 kids sleep in the main living area in the queen fold out bed and we have a single futon chair/bed. We sleep in the main bedroom and have our space too. For us, this works. We know others that love bunkhouses. Compare one of the layouts that have opposing slides in the rear of the rig like our rear kitchen or some of the rear entertainment units. These make huge living areas. Main thing is figure out what works for your needs. We don't have a lot of overnight guest, but if it's kids, they have fun crashing on the floor. We can't really haul any of the kids friends as we barely fit in the crew cab as it is. But we do have lots of family visit and the living space is critical.

You probably got size advise based on the truck you have? You do not mention that, so I am assuming a 3/4 ton crew cab? IF that is the case, load the family up and go to the scales before you do anything else. This will give you your trucks ready to camp weight minus the hitch(250 pounds) and the trailer (20% of the trailers GVWR) Now it is a simple matter to add everything up and see if you fall within the weight specs YOU choose to adhere to. Then you can start looking for a smaller bunk house fifth wheel that suits your needs/wants.

Our friends just bought a Thor Denali with bunks in the back.
They really like it. 2 bottom bunks
and a loft type of situation up top.
Nice set up!
They tow with a 1 ton ford dually.

Just about every manufacturer has a bunk house option. Forest River, Keystone, Carriage, and even Mobile Suites. Depending on what you plan to pull it with and how much you want to spend you will have plenty of options. There are also floor plans with the bunks in the front and the master bedroom in the back. Jayco has a nice quad bunk model with the bunks in the front. I would say there is very little difference between a 32ft and a 35 ft.

The Laredo 32rs is a really nice floor plan with the sink in the Master bed room. It was our 2nd choice. We ended up with the Wildcat 32qbbs. We liked the bunk house better and about 3ft shorter than the Laredo. I have squeked my camper into spots that the 3 ft make a huge differance.
