We'll be staying at Cades Cove, Elkmont & Smokemont in June. I see that there is a small campstore at each campground, and am wondering what each of them has in stock? In particular, I am interested in knowing if milk, bacon, butter and ice is available at those campstores? Thank you.

I can speak to the Cades Cove facility where you will find a nice store with the things you mentioned plus bike rentals and my favorite- soft serve ice cream. Been to the cove many times. Don't drive through it...walk it if you're able and you will see 10 times as much. Its 11 miles with a visitor center halfway(no food however). The best spent 5 hours on your visit.

Smokemont is one of our favorite campgrounds. However, there is no camp store. Ice and firewood are available at the riding stables, and you will be just a short drive from Cherokee, NC which has grocery stores, etc. Have fun! We love the Smokies!

The facilities at Elkmont are the same as posted for Smokemont. But you will be close to Gatlinburg. There is a grocery store on the Gatlinburg to Cosby hwy., sorry I can't remember the hwy. no.

My wife I are visiting the Smoky's for the first time in Sept & we're gathering info for our trip. I've read that there are no shower facilities in the park. The shower in our trailer's a bit to confining for me. How far does one have to go say from Cades Cove for a shower? Also interested in folks preferences of campgrounds in the park. Thanks

bears are around the loop road in cades cove. as far as showers close to cades cove, some of the private rv parks in townsend will let you shower for a fee.

It's been a couple years, but I once met a bear when I came out of the Cades Cove bathroom in the middle of the night!

I have not seen public showers in Cherokee or Gatlinburg but we did not look for showers either so they might be there.

Maybe your choice of campgrounds depends upon what you want to do while there. What do you need to be close to? Do you want quiet or don't mind a busy campground?

HTT to be?
