Jeep has recently come out with a lighter weight 4WD SUV called the Patriot (US version I believe) or Compass (Canada). There is very little difference in the 2 versions. Is anyone using this vehicle for a towed.

I believe the Compass has been discontinued for many months.
These are very small, spartan and expensive for the amenities offered.

Looks like it's only engine is a 172hp 4-cylinder. Kinda limits any hauling of a trailer, IMHO. Other than that "limitation", doesn't look too bad.

They aren't exactly light weight either. An old Cherokee is probably better overall if you can find a good one.

Neither the Patriot or Compass can be towed 4 wheels down. They do not have a neutral transfer case position.

Jeep Liberty 4WD makes a very good tow vehicle. I think the Compass couldn't be towed anyway but I am not positive about that. There are a lot of good Libertys out there. Very easy 4WD to set up and tow.

Compass is still alive and well.
Neither the Compass nor the Patriot have a transfer case with neutral so I doubt if they can be flat towed.

We were led astray by our salesman who told us the Compass was towable. After the responses here - we called him back and asked him to check further. RVers know more about these things than salesmen - thanks everyone - it is not towable. Back to the charts!

When it comes to Jeeps, I have never met a dealer or salesperson who knew anything other then the price and a few outdated myths. The only Jeeps that are towable 4-down are the "real" Jeeps ... Wrangler, Liberty, and some models of the Grand Cherokee. The rest may have Jeep badges on them but they are basically Dodges in disguise ... which explains their low weight!
