I suggest that you allow at least a couple of days for exploring the Banff area The town has some pretty good shopping and restaurants. My favorite attraction is just north of Banff, Johnstons Canyon, it's an easy hike to some pretty impressive waterfalls.

If at all possible, call the campgrounds you wish to stay at ahead of your arrival to make reservations.

Bear spray is easy enough to find in the mountains, and it's not expensive, so if you don't want to take any across the border you won't be stuck.

Have fun!!
