I did not grow up on a farm but in a subdivision very similiar to the one I live in now. My sons started with the lawn tractor pulling a small cart just like I did. I really should let the DW drive the camper a few times in case there is ever a need. Just can't bring myself to do it so far!

At the age of 8 I sat on the doghouse of my dads cabover tractor trailer (semi) and shifted a 10 speed roadranger. At age 11 or so I was steering the truck and sometimes driving the truck on backroads.
Age 14ish I was allowed to back the truck in at home....53ft trailer is ALOT easier then those dinky 40fters. Age 16 I was backing in at the Anheuser-Busch in Columbus OH. I agree with starting them young. My son at the age of 7 is the primary backer helper. The wife bless her heart has no patience or skill on communicating with me in that scenerio. Most of the time I require no help but when hitching or blind spots the DS has a natural ability.....

P.S. In the dark hours the wife will assist due to safety issues. DS really gets miffed at us for restraining him.....lol

I started by pulling the boat trailer out of the water and parking the truck. Then I was told if I could do that I could back it in. I got better real quick. then we got a slide in camper.. Now I could not see behind me so I had to trust the mirrors.. Guess I was 15 when I started.

Start everything when they are young... dump station, battery hook up, Propane tank change out. All good practices.

The first time I backed a trailer was when I got my license at the age of 16. My dad let me borrow the jon boat. It just seemed like I knew how to do it. I never struggled that day and haven't had much trouble since then with any trailer. I don't know if it's because I paid attention to dad while he did stuff like this because it has seemed to always come natural to me.

I always see posts on here about help backing up and I have always wondered why people struggle with it.
