I've been lurking for several years, but now that my husband and I are about to purchase a 1999 Shasta Cheyenne, I decided I should join RV.NET.

We've owned a 5' by 8' teardrop trailer for two years, so I can't say that we're completely virgin RVers. However, tomorrow's planned purchase should put us squarely into the RV clan. From my years of RV.NET lurking, I'm happy to be able to be counted among you.

I've printed a pre-delivery inspection checklist from another thread. We'll use that to guide our turn-over with the seller.

So, hello to new friends!

Welcome....I'm gratified to see so many new members, and that the industry isn't drying up. Granted, you're buying a used unit (that is where the savings are!!), just as we did, and we plan to have great adventures just as you do. I'm not going to worry about the gas prices...though they will probably stall a cross country trip for a year or so, but still there is just so much to see in the distance a tank of gas will get us.

Again, Welcome...and have fun!!

Awesome... Please check all around the inside roof areas for signs of leaks or rot. This includes opening the cabinets and looking at the roof.

But you will love a Class C over a trailer. I sure do...

Have a great time camping,

I don't know how much rain you see in your part of South Dakota, but be sure you don't have any water leaks from outside corners & edges, and around the a/c and other roof cut-outs. A nine year old RV constructed like the one you mentioned, has a flat roof with trimmed & caulked corners, which can suffer such. Be sure to inspect for water stains & musty odors. If you find such, then consider the possibility of hidden water damage which becomes expensive to repair.

If it is good and you buy it, be sure to go over the whole RV and re-caulk it well. It could leak sometime soon while in a rainy part of the country.
