My wife and I were given a Gold membership 16 years ago by a couple that no longer could use it. We love having it even though we pay over 500 bucks a year. Just like any thing else out there we have some gripes about it. Why we like it so much is that we can get a reservation any time, the parks are secure, there is always room for our 39' toy hauler, people have to be able to afford the dues so you don't get as many of the freaks like at a state campground, the parks are kept up and every thing works. I let my son ride his bike around the campgrounds with out having to worry. My Wife's parents have been members since she was a kid and she has great memories of all the trips they took. Just look at the news papers for a used one as older couples can no longer use them and you can find some good deals.

Just like all timeshare deals.... 90 minutes turns into 2-3 hours with super high pressure. However, the campgrounds are nice with numerous free activities. I got a free membership when I purchased my FW from Lazy days. There was only one campground in Fl by disney. I used it during the summer, but the winter was impossible to get a space. Funny though... Some friends were able to do their 3 day visit during the time they told me they were full..

It was not even worth the yearly fees for us much less the $9,000 intial membership dues that they try to sell you...

If you do visit I would print a couple of the ads from Ebay and when they try the high pressure sales pull them out and tell them you will just buy one from ebay. I would love to see their face!!!

Have a great time camping,
Terry

I think they are worth it if you camp in their parks. My parents have the 1000 trails/Nanco I think. They just upgraded last year to some platinum package or something like that. They use it qute a bit and love it.

Their upgrade works out well for me though. One of their perks of the level they are at is that they can give away 4 memberships to diect family members. So basically I got a membership and all I pay is the yearly maintainence fee which is around 400 dollars and its locked in at that price for life. Gotta love parents, 38 years old and still getting freebies from mom and dad.....LOL

If you are a west coaster, it is probally worth it. If not, its money down a dry hole.

I live on the East Coast, and will probably do most of our camping in the Northeast, at least until the kids are in college.

Although the salesmen, desperate to make a sale, may tell you this, it is NOT TRUE.

Is anyone familiar with this 30 day free membership? What does it include?

If we could use it this summer for 2 weeks worth of camping, I would think that it would at least be worth about $500.

While I was on the phone, they said they called and checked to make sure that Lake & Shore Campground was doing the tours. They said yes, and I was scheduled for Sunday 5/18. They called the week before to tell me that the location is not doing tours, and I would have to go to Hershey, PA. That is over 2 hours away instead of 1 hour, so I did not go. They said Lake & Shore was not doing tours anymore because it was "bringing in the types of people that they did not want there"!

You will hear a lot of negative things about Thousand Trails on this forum. Take what you hear with a grain of salt. The wife and I have been members since 2000. We got a 'free weekend' when we bought our first new motor home. We went to the preserve and enjoyed our time but had no intention of joining. At the presentation we listened to their pitch but politely said no to the $10,000.00 price. They countered with $7500.00. We again said no. They asked what would it take for us to join. We said $100.00 a month for three years with nationwide access to all Thousand Trails, NACO and LTR parks. He said sure, no problem. We have enjoyed countless weekends at the preserves in Texas ever since. We also spend our summer vacations at preserves that are in other states. There have been threads on here about the increasing costs of staying in campgrounds. Threads about how campgrounds charge extra for kids or WiFi. As we know Thousand Trails, they don't charge extra for kids or WiFi. Each one has a pool and playground. Some of the preserves are not as nice as others, but that goes for any commercial campground also. We like Thousand Trails, for us it is money well spent.

I have to say Ditto on what RetiredbutWorking said. We love the parks here in Texas and spend as much time there as possible. We have on less than an hour from the house and with gas prices that in it's self is priceless. We feel it is well worth the money and we store our boat there also.

Remember there are also people who stay in parks that I would not let my dog visit and love them. So take everyone's opinion with a grain of salt and decide what is best for your situation.
