My wife and I drove thru this area from Canmore south. We thought it was so beautiful that we decided to go back this summer for a little camping and fishing. We stopped at a convenience store which was not fear from the Kananaskis River. We were wondering where there is to camp. Where are the campgrounds with and without fees and when do the fish start to jump? PMs are welcome.

Thanks

I recommend Bow Valley PP. It just east of Canmore and right off the Bow River. Make reservations if you can.

Sorry, I don't know anything about fishing!

In addition to Bow Valley PP, there are a number of areas in K country:

SW of Bragg Creek there are a number of campgrounds... few, if any have hookups

East of Turner Valley same as above

South on highway 40, there is Mount Kidd Resort that has all the stuff

Further south on 40, there are a number of campgrounds in Peter Lougheed PP... not sure what conveniences that have

This website might help: http://www.tpr.alberta.ca/parks/kananaskis/flashindex.asp

Mount Kidd RV park - if you can get in....it's very busy, even with their skyrocketing prices.

If you need full hook ups Mt kidd is the place, but good luck getting a spot now unless you get lucky with a cancellation.

Boulton Creek in Peter Louheed park further south is power only with showers and wash facilities. rest are dry sites, we love Elkwood and they also have showers etc, but you need you genny there. TONS of camp grounds in Louheed park, or as mentioned Bow valley of Hwy #1.

Nicest CG just west of Alberta is Fairmont Hot Springs, about 2 hours from Banff. Full hookups and large hot pool. Lots of golf in the area.
