It's not uncommon at all for aluminum rims to leak- but usually not to the extent that you describe. I do not have AL rims on my 5er, but do have them on all my vehicles (four of them). Every singe one of them will, over time, leak out a bit; factory and aftermarket alike. These "leaks" are very slow, and all four rims on each vehicle leak at about the same rate. I just top off the air once a month or so and they are fine. But if the leak is very pronounced, then like the others have said, there could be a defect in the manufacture of the unit.

We had this very problem with our Sandpiper toyhauler. The wheels were manufactured in Argentina with a weight load of 3750lbs. The manufacturer replaced them with a much better looking wheel (made in China, surprise) and a new weight load of 3960lbs.

I worked in the aircraft industry for 45 years and have seen plenty of aluminum wheels leak. Right now I have two wheels on a small trailer I built using wheels from a Beechcraft King Air 200. The wheels would leak until the pressure was down to 50 pounds and then quit leaking. By submerging the wheels with the rated (120) pressure in them, you could see bubbles all around the wheel. Aircraft wheels must be inspected (NDT) and these would pass the inspection. I removed them from service because I was tired of filling them up three times a week. Wait a minute; I have three of them. I forgot about the spare. Leaking aluminum wheels are the norm and could indicate a crack forming. That's why I use steel wheels.

I have a 2001 Montana that I replaced 2 of the wheels because of leaking. The first was a crack in the valve stem area; the second was in the side of the rim due to a imperfection in casting. It took about 6 yrs before they started leaking. Bought replacement aluminum wheels from Les Schwab and now waiting to see if other 2 wheels go bad.

We had a Cambridge by Keystone. Excellent 5th wheel, however we had two of our Aluminum wheels crack. I replaced them with Alcoa Aluminum wheels and I must say you could see the difference just by looking at the two. The Tredit wheels that cracked were made in China and Argentina. Both were junk, I was told by another Cambridge owner this would happen and it did just as he said. Thanks to the Pressure Pro system we didn't have a major tire failure. And I also will say Keystone stood by their product. Thanks again to excellent support. We no longer have the Cambridge but we miss our Cambridge. Get you a set of Alcoa Aluminum wheels and you want have a problem. I have found that most all Rv aluminum wheels are made in China or some other country because they are CHEAP. GBY...

Has anyone ever tried Slime in their tires. This stuff will seal most anything, but don't know what it would do to the balance.

The stock wheels on my 5er have been excellent, really little to no leakage. Over the winter (5 1/2 months), the tires only lost about 1 1/2 psi. I believe the wheels are supplied to General Coach by Carlisle? I'm not sure what their reputation is but I don't have anything to complain about.

Aluminum wheels usually leak at the tire bead due to corrosion. Check to see were leak is. If its on the bead tire must be dismounted and bead area cleaned and sealed with bead sealer and tire remounted. Fix a flat or any other canned sealer that you add through valve stem will just make a mess inside the tire.
