They are definitely more tuned to "camping" then rving for sure. I think they are cool little things. One morning up in Maine at a campground while walking the barkers, I stumbled across the NICEST friendliest mom and her 2 daughters hopping out of a "little guy".

They showed me the whole thing, (which didn't take long) and I was amazed how all three of them fit in there to sleep! The back opened up to a sort of kitchen area. More like a place to store things with a shelf to prepare lunch.

If you feel like building one, I say go for it. But don't forget to post some pics to see!

88beast, I wanted to build or buy a teardrop before I purchased me current Jayfeather. Here is a link to a webforum that is totally devoted to teardrops. Good luck and if you decide to build one make sure to take pictures so you can share with other enthusiast.

IMHO it is a "cult" type thing. I saw one at Gander Mountain that was no more than a UHaul type trailer with a mattress on the floor for about $5,000?
If a RV doesn't have a built in potty I don't want it. I'd buy a utility trailer and convert it myself.

while I don't think they are a "CULT" thing.

I also don't think tents, pop-ups, hybrids, truck campers, Travel trailers,

fifth-wheels, class C, class B, class A's are a "CULT thing.

I think they all are just campers, and people camping the way they want.

Good luck on building one looks like fun to me.

I'm finally "finishing" my CT/TH build.....if it winds your watch---go for it! Not for the timid....but what YOU WANT is what YOU WANT...so DO it!

FWIW: MY G-F built a PUP in 1927 that sold 2 years ago for $4400, and it's still on the road! Upgraded a bit from what he built, but still in good shape.

My SIL's brother built one from scratch. Bought an axle, built the frame out of square and round tubing, sheathed it with an aluminum skin, and finished the interior in birch. It has the rear kitchen area, a twin bed, built in chest of drawers, some shelves and a place for the dog to sleep. He evidently did a pretty good job because it was parked on the street beside his house and got hit by a drunk driver. The impact knocked the trailer about 50 feet up into his yard and left it on its side. The only real damage was a dent in the rear corner, and it knocked a fender off. He is rebuilding the damage.
