Just a thought. There is a place in North Texas called Red River trails. About a hour drive from Lake Murray. Awesome place to ride!!! Google it and see what you think.

I know this Is a older topic, but came across It and thought I would post a comment. I've been going to lake Murray to ride 4-wheelers for years, way before they ever built the campground at the trailhead, years back the riding area was a little larger than It Is now, and of course you did not have to pay, and you could camp anywhere on the 1000 acres. Beleive It or not people would take camper trailers pretty well anywhere or wherever they could on the park. Toyhaulers was just starting to become popular about the time they built the first campground at the trailhead. When you pull through the gate the campground on your right, or the west side was the first campground built. I was the first to park a camper on one of the spots, I had a old 45' fiver, and thought I was In hog heaven to have such a nice concrete pad with full hookups to park that baby, at the area that I love so much. Anyway I'll quit going on about It, I just thought some of you might enjoy hearing about the park before It was modern. There Is another place to ride in the Arbuckle mountains at Davis Oklahoma called Cross Bar Ranch, with over 6000 acres to ride, and they plan on having modern sites later on, It's some of the best riding I've seen. Do a google search on the Cross Bar Ranch.

I use to Live in Durant, Ok and we would run to Murray for the day. Great place to ride. The best part is jumping in the lake durring the ride. You can see your toes the water is so clear, that is after you clean yourself off. Lake Murray is a Canyon lake so parts are really deep. Rain and run off fill the lake, not fed by a river. There are cabins, but they are by the main marina on the West side of the lake, few miles from the trail head. The bathrooms are clean and you can get a hot shower, but you pay. $.50 for 2 min I think.
ABinOK is correct there are some real characters out there, but I venter to say they are almost anywhere you can ride. They are the same people that cause problems with the public putting the bad name to ATVs and the people who ride them. One bad apple can sure spoil it for those who try to respect each other and the places they ride.

Well, we had a great time there are have a group going back to Murray again for 09. Actually, the run in I had was with guys on motorcylces Some ride faster than they can see or stop... Of course we were on quads and sxs with kids. On the quads we probably got into some peoples way as well.

Anyway, it was a great place and the water was part of what made it. We too rides with the kids to the water on the sxs to go swimming and took a boat out with everyone on the lake for a day. We looked at going to crossbar ranch and probably will eventually. However, it didn't seem like they really had rv spots and I couldn't tell if there was any swimming for the kids.

The riding really depends on what you like. The Murray atv area isn't really that big, but its fun. If you want more exploring then there are better places. Like most places, it's what you make of it with your friends & family. If the crossbar ranch gets more defined camping set ups, then that would probably work better for us.

Worst thing... you can't get reservations at Murray. Of course that's true for any OK state park. So there is rarely $50 for 2 nts. You may have to go up there and save a spot by setting up a tent & paying for extra nts. Our group would have been in trouble if we hadn't gone up 2 days early. Even with the insane atv laws in OK, it still filled up by Thurs.

It is all primative camping at crossbar ranch. No swimming area unless you fall in the creek!!!! Much more area to ride than murray. Grass track, rocks, hills. The place is pretty fun to ride. I still say you should try red river trails in texas, just across the red river. another great place to ride!!

Are you sure the guys you had a run in with were bike guys? Maybe they were just posers
