Just bought a new 2007 Chevy 2500. When I went to fill the tank it only took 22 gal. I looked in the manual and it said I should have a 34 gal. tank. Not that I minded not having to pay more than $100 to fill my tank, but I only get about 315 miles on a tank running empty. Towing my 26ft TH I'm looking at something like 210 mile range.

Anyone know if this is a standard size tank for the 07 2500HD? Anyone else have the same truck with the 24 gal. tank?

Although we have a 2008 2500 HD Silverado, I am quite sure the tank size is 24 gallons. Might be a typo in the manual.

My owner's manual lists 34 gallons also, but that is not right. I'm pretty sure the short bed trucks have a 29 gallon tank. If the "light" has been on awhile, I can get a little over 25 gallons in it.

34 gallons is only available and standard on the long bed, If you have the 6.5 bed you have a 26 gallon tank.

Camping mode, you were pushing it!

Depending on your bed side, short = smaller tank, long = larger tank. I have a short bed and thus the smaller tank. I too wanted a longer range; thus I swapped out the OEM tank with a larger after market midship tank. With a short bed, space is valuable in the bed. With the larger after market tank, I now have a range of 800-900 miles (empty).

Sounds like you have a short bed truck, which is a 26 gallon tank. Long beds have 34 gallon tanks.

Mine is a 26 gallon tank. . . holds a little more to give you a margin for error, but it's officially 26 gallons. At 10-12 mpg, if the gauge is in the red, I won't be passing on an opportunity to fill up hoping for a better deal down the road!

I looked into a bigger tank. . . decided against it for now. $1,200 to replace the original 26 gallon tank with a 42 gallon tank (an increase of 16 gallons). The after market replacement tanks hang down a little under the side, add weight, and only add to the vehicle RANGE, not economy (the added weight would actually reduce economy a little).

There are a few in-line tanks for gasoline engines that can be installed in the bed, but I decided against those, too. You can't have a camper shell / tonneau cover with one, and I just can't justify the cost for RANGE. I can buy a lot of fuel for $1,200.
