Just returned from a 4500+ mi. trip. This is my first 5er (outback 30) Do I need to replace wheel bearings or just grease them. Not going on a long trip for awhile only local (60+ mi.)Will definetly replace before next long trip but would like to wait a bit before the expense. All through trip I checked hubs and they were never hot. Had bearings changed just before trip. Thanks

Just grease them, no need to change them.

Should be done every 10,000-12,000 miles, but it's ok to do earlier.

I have pulled a 30' trailer well over 100,000 miles on its original bearings...bearings inspected and adjusted once per year and repacked when brake shoes wore down...about 35,000 miles.

The only reason for changing the bearings is that you run them dry...

The bearings need to be clean and inspected, then replaced or just regreased as needed.

All men over age 50 should get an annual PSA blood test. Mine had a low reading, but the yearly jump was significant. The biopsy showed cancer just entering the aggressive stage. Dr. Hackenslash removed it.

Just make sure if you have the easy lube axles you don't over grease them and blow the seal out.
