On the way to Alaska, and planning to be in Calgary/Banff area around the first weel in July. We obviously want to catch a few days of the Stampede. Can someone recommend a campground or RV park in the Calgary area that can take a 43' DP? DW like her comforts so hookups are pretty much a necessity. Thanks

Six miles North of Cochrane on Hwy 22 Poke this link, it is a new park, designed for the traveller as opposed to long term use.

Good luck if you are trying to get a reservation for a park close-in that still has sites during this year's Stampede.
You might want to try to make a reservation at this park: http://www.springhillrvpark.com/
From here you can take 1A/Crowchild Trail to an LRT station & use this to get to the Stampede Grounds and downtown.
Also, this might help you find a location: http://www.rvparkhunter.com/ca_ab.asp?state=alberta

We stayed at the Calgary West Campground last year and really enjoyed it! It's a former KOA with a lot of services. The sites are nice with a lot of variety! Do a search, I posted pics last year! We would go back again if we're ever in that neck of the wood again!

Some friends just tried to get reservtions at Calgary West (KOA), Bow Rivers Edgoe (Cochrane) and Calaway Park for the same week and were told all is booked. Banff Tunnel Mtn Trailer court is also booked.
You might be able to get a spot at a non - reservation CG on Tuesday morning as that's when locals may be pulling out after the long weekend to go home. McLean Creek in Bragg creek has a few sites with elec. that could fit your rig. But your timing will need to be really good.

You could try the Okotoks or the Black Diamond Lions Campgrounds, both are very nice and can accomodate bigger rigs. Both towns are about 30-45 minutes south of Calgary. I do not have any phone numbers or e-mail addresses but I belive both are listed in RV Park Reviews.

There's a couple of parks around Strathmore - don't know names but they'll be in Woodalls. As others have noted its going to be hard to find anything right in Calgary except as a last minute deal if somebody leaves unexpectedly and you happen to phone at the exact right moment. That park north of Cochrane has a lot of rig workers in it right now - it may be full too. There's also Symons Valley ranch which is pretty close in on the north side of Calgary - I'm not sure how full it is right now. The suggestion to go south of town is a good idea because that gets you off the #1 corridor but I don't know that area at all. There's also the provincial parks west of Bragg Creek but that's getting a little farther out of town than you may want to be. 50 amp hookups during Stampede week are going to be few and far between - you may find 30 amp but I think 50 will be a reach.

I had a hard time finding camping near Calgary when I was booking 4 months ago. I finally found two nights at Calway park. We would have liked more, but that was all they had.
If you have a toad, you may want to look at Lake Louise. One part of the campground does have hook ups, but the sites are not too pretty. It appeard that most the sites were double sites. We drove through there a couple weeks ago. The bear proof part of the campground was very pretty. It is a long drive to Calgary though 2 or 3 hours.
Many small towns out of Calgary have municipal camp grounds, but I have no idea if they would have room for bigger rigs.
Didsbury camping is about an hour North of Calgary.

Thanks for the info, we got a later start (leaving tomorrow) than we expected, but will be in the general area, so I figured we'd try to fit in the Stampede. maybe we'll get lucky.
