Hello all, so far everyone here who's offered advice has been right on the money on where to stay and what to see. Currently I'm at the Bar Harbor KOA until Tuesday when we check out, we'd like to head to NH at that time and stay a few days there and we think that the White Mountains is what interests us. Does anyone have a recommendation on where to stay and what to see at the White Mountains? Anywhere else in NH? Should we stop in SW Maine on the way over? Thanks!

North Conway in the Mount Washington Valley is a great place to start. There's a little something for everyone. Shopping, Restaurants for those that are looking for something "else" to do, Hiking, canoeing on the Saco River, or maybe even the Ziprider at Wildcat Mountain. My personal favorite place to camp is Saco River Camping Area.

You can then take the Kangamangus Highway over to Lincoln and spend some time there. (A great scenic drive)

If there are kids involved, there are plenty of places like Storyland, Clarks Trading Post, Santa's Village all within a reasonable drive.

If you go, make sure you stop at Zebs General Store in downtown North Conway.

South of the White Mountains is the Lakes Region which also has plenty of great things to see and do. Take a ride around Lake Winnipasaukee for some great views.

If you are looking for a place to stay in or near the White Mountains, I would suggest Danforth Bay Camping Resort, or Cove Camping Area, or Chocoria KOA Camping Village, heard good things about all. I know there are others as well.

Okay, here's just a few ideas:

Storyland
Santa's Village
Clarks Trading Post
Mount Washington Auto Road
Mount Washington Valley
Loon Mountain
Mt Washington Cog Railway
The Flume Gorge
Lost River Gorge
Conway Scenic Railroad
Kangamangus Highway
Franconia Notch State Park
Zebs General Store

In the Lakes Region:
M/S Mount Washington Cruise
Harts Turkey Farm

and make sure you get an ice cream at Kellerhaus

oh, and did I mention Zebs in North Conway Village? :-)

There are a few National Forest Campgrounds on the Kancamagus Highway (that's where we stay). If you want peace and quite in the woods, try one of these. Unfortunately there are no hookups. Plenty of hiking trails! I highly recommend a drive-yourself (or a chauffered van) ride up Mt. Washington. We drive up every year. Agnes

Wishing you well at Chocorua Camping Village, I think their website is misleading, IMHO; we made reservations there based on their website, drove through one day to check it out and then canceled...if you can get in to Danforth Bay you should try it. We've heard good things about Cove Camping Area, too. Wherever you stay, definitely pop up to North Conway; beautiful views, shopping (Zeb's ) and you can drive the Kancamagus from there. North Conway is probably 1/2 hr or so from Chocorua.
