Greetings;
The fine folks parked next to us have a new Titanim fiver; i.e. 2008.
He wishes to install a metal platform at the rear of the rig to hold a metal box to store his Honda 3000W generator. He says it (box) must be about 2 ft. wide. Does anyone have a solution to help this man? As there is "NO REAR BUMPER" on his Titanim - can a generator platform with box added?
If so, how? Only serious replies, with recommendations or suggestions - please
Many thanks in advance,
BB

Our metal platform (Camping World)came unattached while on Louisiana I-20. It held our generator, a bike, and a gas container. I don't know details of how it was attached, only that the weld broke from the weight, so apparently you don't want THAT one. Barb

I'm going the same route BB, and my Alpenlite doesn't have a visible rear bumper either. He should go to a certified welding shop that specializes in hitches and have them weld a bracket from the large steel bumper that is under his molded fibreglass. There is a lot of flexing going on back there with a heavy load, so tell him to buck up and do it right. Hope this helps.

We have a platform on the rear of our 5th wheel. They installed some steel to our frame and put a hitch insert in there. My bumper would not hold that weight. I have a basket that goes into the hitch insert and carry our generator that way. it works great for us!

He can have a reciever hitch welded to the back of the trailer, then he can carry any kind of hitch mounted carrier he wants to back there, provided it does not overload the hitch, or trailer frame the hitch attatches to. I fabricated a hitch on the rear of a travel trailer for a customer recently so he could haul a bike/cargo carrier on the back of his trailer. He is out using it now as we speak .

My dealer talked me into letting them install a receiver hitch to the frame of the trailer. I was afraid of frame braking, but they installed enough bracing to take care of that problem. They picked up a nice receiver hitch, and attached it to the braced frame. Then I picked up a receiver carrier. The generator fit right down into the carrier, and they attached it so it could not be removed without a lot of effort. Too they had to fabricate the receiver carrier so we could service the generator without removing. I picked up a hyd jack carrier from a tool company, and if I want to take the generator off, I just unlock the hitch pin and slide out on the jack, and roll the entire assembly into the garage. They also ran a 50 amp cord, so I can run the generator without running my regular shore cord. I know it works just like it was a factory unit, its just on the back and not in the storage compartment. It does not affect pulling.

Just built a metal box myself to house a Honda EU3000. I built it so that you lift the lid, let the two ends drop down, close the lid and lock it. I can run the gen this way and if I leave the campsite, no one can "walk away" with my gen without a lot of work and strength. I made sure the their would be plenty of air flow both on the intake end and exhaust end so as not to hurt the gen when running it. I will try and post a few photo's when I can. My box can be mounted on the back of my 5vr or secured in the bed of my PU in the front of the bed.

Why not mount your generator in the bed of the truck and not worry about a big weight bouncing about on the rear of the trailer.
