Does anyone know of a website or book with current information about towing travel trailers on roads like parkways, tunnels, bridges etc.?
I've check some sites on the towing laws, but they just pertain to the maximum heights and lengths etc. I am looking for a more detailed description of what vehicles can't go on what roads.
I was stopped at the George Washington Bridge going on the lower level and had to go around and go on the upper level.
I'd like to avoid that mistake again.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks

If you have GPS you can set it to take truck routes only and save some trouble. I don't need GPS all year so I just subscribe to it on my cell phone for the summer.
Just an idea.

Only some GPS's have a truck setting, and even then it doesn't buy you much. It doesn't avoid low bridges or weight restrictions, and it certainly doesn't know anything about the kind of restrictions that the OP is concerned about. It helps, but not a lot. Pretty much it just keeps you off of the smallest roads.
I'll keep an eye on this thread, as I would like to see the same kind of information. There's more to it than just height restrictions.

I'd like the info too! We are going to Virginia from New York and although not a very long ride I'm concerned about the tunnels and the restrictions regarding propane. GPS doesn't address that.

The gas issue over bridges and tunnels has come up fairly often and a search should bring up some information.
Truckers also have an Atlas that they use which gives them some of this information. It is fairly pricey, around $35. Just sold one at a yard sale because my chief navigator (DW) really didn't like it.

You could try rvtrips.com and click on "trip planner".
We used this when planning a trip from New Hampshire to Virginia and we put in the criteria to avoid tunnels, bridges etc.
Hope this helps.

Just re-read the OP; I don't think rvtrips.com will tell you where you can and can't go with an RV, but it will map out the trip avoiding certain obstacles that you don't want to run in to, once you know what you need to avoid . Sorry...

I don't think my gps has a truck setting, it does let me avoid freeways, tunnels, and ferries only.
I'll try the rvtrips and I think i'll try Triple A.
I'll post any info I get.
Thanks

I use my GPS, but if I'm going somewhere I'm not familiar with, I'll compare my GPS route to Good Sam's route planner. Good Sam's is designed for us RV'ers...worth a try. Don't think they have a list of the restrictions, but you can plan your route just like with a GPS or Mapquest.
