I went with a neighbor to look at TT's and 5er's this past weekend at three of our local dealers representing most of the major brands. One thing I noticed was that not a one of them had a slideout awning while just about every "C" did. Is this a cost cutting measure or the norm for TT and 5er's?

I'm not sure why the "C's" had the awnings and the TT and 5ers didn't. Almost every trailer we've looked at toppers had to be added unless the unit came from the factory with them already installed. We wouldn't have a TT without a topper. It's one of the best things we added to our trailer.

I don't know if it's cost cutting, the norm or both, but you're right. I noticed the same thing. We had our dealer add an awning to our slide since it is a full room slide.

They are a extra dealer installed item on TT and fvers. Some of the higher end models may come from the factory with them but most have to be purchased seperatly or the dealer installs them prior to the sale and includes it in a package deal, just like a power jack. Perfectly normal. I too wouldn't have a slide without one.

My TT does not have slide awnings. After watching the winds on South Padre Island shred the slide awnings on others' rigs I am happy to climb up and sweep off my slide out roof before retracting.

Trailers are almost always manufactured much cheaper than motorhomes. Motorhomes will often come with window awningws, acrylic awnings instead of vinyl and fiberglass roofs instead rubber. Right there the manufacturers can probably save at least $2000.

Ours didn’t come with one when new. However, we did have one installed. There are a lot of times we camp under trees and the awning will prevent mechanical failure down the road. I have heard of people that have had slide issues that didn’t have awnings installed because sap from trees got on the seals of the slide out.

It will prevent twigs and other debris from jamming in the slide. It also helps if you are in a winter climate and needing to balance on something to clean the snow off the top before sliding it in.

Like the slide awnings on ours. They have deflected major thunderstorms dumping 2" of rain in a half hour, tree sap, tree parts, pine needles, bird poop and more.
Some are now offering the option to order them from the factory. Jayco, Forest River, Cruiser, Sunnybrook and others are offering them at a killer price factory installed.

It is normal for slide out awnings not to come with a TT. A lot of people add them on.

On my 2000 Jayco that I used till this year my slide had no problems from weather nor anything else other than the seal needing replacement after 7 years (which is still normal). So I guess other than adding another mechanical problem to the trailer I opted for not getting them on my 2008 Jayco. I did add a ladder in casr I ever (unlikely) wanted to sweep them off. I do clean them when doing my wash and wax thing.
