You know Moss, part of the fun at the campground is watching folks come and go. DW and I put on a great show for our fellow campers when we arrive and leave. Shoot, I've even thought of handing out score cards before we start the backup process!! And we enjoy watching others as much as doing it ourselves. Of course, when the pro's show up, it's kinda dull!

So relax and know that it is what it is and enjoy it! It'll sure make a great conversation starter with the neighbors!

Hitching to a ball is a piece of cake... I routinely back a 2" stinger into a 2" receiver when hitching my Hensley and do it all by my lonesomes using just the convex mirror... No big deal

I feel your pain. I do it my self, it just saves us from starting out bitter with one another, besides after a few times I now can have it done in about half the time. The only thing I have my DW do when we arrive at destination is ensure I dont back into anything. I have one of those tailgate mirrors from camping world and have not had it out in over a year. I feel it easier to train myself where my marks are then to teach the DW. Just take your time and have fun. Happy Camping.

BACK-UP DIRECTIONS

Point left if you want me to go left.
Point right if you want me to go right.
Never "SAY, go left or Go Right".
Big rolling hand motion for go back fast/far.
Hand up for Stop.
Yell stop!
When close, use both hands up to
show the distance to go,... closing hands to indicate how close
you have to go, error on the side of not big enough.
When real close as in lining up hitch use
one hand with two fingers showing the distance to go.

Always stay so you can be seen. (drivers side)
If you need to go to the blind side, Stop me first, then go check.

I hear ya. I thought I had it lined up right on the mark. The next command was "about a foot left". So I cranked it hard to move it left..you can guess what was really was intended.

Left, as in 'left to go'? Not, 'go left'? Yeah, I think I had that one too.

I can understand the frustration. My DW seems to be clueless whe it comes to guiding me backing up. I've told her multiple times that all she needs to tell me how far over and how far back I need to go. Inevitably, I end up lined up with the coupler, but 3" to one side. After five years of camping, I've pretty much written her off. I either do it myself, or let my 10 yr old daughter help, she's far better at it than her mother.

To be honest, If you can't hook up by yourself, are you really qualified to pull a trailer.

Since I have learned what trolling is, I feel your comment borders on it. I can`t imagine posting something like that on a site like this without wanting to get a response. So I`ll oblige.

Maybe you should go read my OP again. I didn`t say I couldn`t, I said DW wants to help and we`re having trouble communicating. I`m perfectly capable of doing it myself. In fact, if you knew anything about me other than the little that I post here, you`d eat those words without salt or pepper. I find it silly that you would post a comment that is so self-agrandizing and arrogant, knowing that the majority of people who come to this site are new to RVing and are looking for guidance. Am I learning? Yes! Am I stupid and incapable? Lets just say I`ll put my gray matter up against yours anytime. You may be the final arbitor of who can tow, (or back up, or level, or build a fire, etc.) but you don`t seem to know how to keep your condescending foot out of your mouth.

Now, if you`ll excuse me, I`m going to go practice hitching until I can win the contest at the county fair this fall.

Go to your local hardware store and buy 2 4' sections of 1" white PVC pipe, 2 round magnets and a section of 1" dowel. Glue the section of dowel into one end of each PVC pipe. Glue and screw a magnet on each of the Pieces of pipe. Stick one pipe on your trailer hitch (centered) and the other one on the ball. Get them centered in your rear view mirror and slowly back up until the one on your ball falls off. You should be under the hitch. Good Luck. Tell your wife to watch and learn..
