We'll be going through St. Louis on our way west in a couple of weeks. We'll be coming from the east on I-70, and planning on taking I-255 and I-270 around the south side of town, and heading west on I-44. Is there anything we need to know about along that route?

That is a good choice and a good road. I do it frequently.

We take this route regularly since my brother lives west of St. Louis just off I-44 - it's definitely better than any other route - but try very hard to not hit it during rush hour!!

Agree, don't hit it during rush hour, it is a very doable route. We do it at least 2 times a year.

I took that route heading east last Tuesday at 6pm and it was a breeze. Speed limit all the way and not all that much traffic.

I-255 in Illinois had some rough road heading north in the slow lane.

I took 255 to I-55 North and the I-70 interchange runs off it.

It is a great route to take if you like looking at corn.

Seriously, that is probably the least traveled route in the St.Louis area. "Rural" farming area explains the lack of traffic on this route. Never any traffic on I-255 in IL, and if you stay away until the morning rush hour is over, the traffic on NB I-270 from the IL line to I-44 will not be too bad.

On that note, I-270NB from I-55 to I-44 is horribly backed up in the AM rush until about 9:00~9:30 in the mornings.

We won't be hitting that area until after 6pm on a Sunday, so rush hour isn't an issue. Thanks for the responses everyone.
