I have a surprise week off next week. I want to try someplace new and different.
I know that this is a wide open question, but I'm looking for any suggestions on great places to go within 6 hours drive of KC.
I have 2 kids...we are open to anything....
I am wide open....thanks

About 260 miles away is Turpentine Creek - a big cat sanctuary in Eurkea Springs, Arkansas. Neat place.
Also, I'd guess Branson, Missouri is roughly the same distance away. It has all kinds of shows, and Silver Dollar City - a bunch of amusement rides, etc.
Back to Turpentine Creek - here are a few pics I took a couple of years ago.

Thousand Hills S.P. in Kirksville. Very nice, has a lake and swimming area, and the sites and restrooms are well kept. Great place to go!
Also, Columbia is only two hours away, it's a great place as well, come and visit!

With 2 kids try Lake Rudolph Campground it is in Santa Claus IN just about at your six hour limit,3hrs east of St Louis but with a week off you would have plenty of time and could stop somewhere on the way,The campground is right next to The Holiday Village Park and Water Park, check them out on their web site. www.lakerudolph.com

Grand Lake O' the Cherokees is probably within your six hour limit, and might be recovering from the early Spring flooding by now.
To the east, Mark Twain Lake and Lake of the Ozarks are within six hours. Flood conditions, I don't know. We found Hannibal to be great to visit with kids, but I wouldn't go there just now, they are still in disaster recovery mode. Same for the places I know and like in eastern Iowa.
Opportunities are watersports and fishing.
Don't know what you've already done, so don't know what would be something different.

Roaring River State Park is pretty neat. Really nice pool, hiking, and trout fishing. Good luck.
