Hi everyone. Hope summer is treating you right.

I have a 31' fifth wheel with two slides. Recently the bedroom slide is not working properly. When I bring it in it sometimes stops but will restart. when I get it in all of the way in it is still out about 1/2 inch from sealing tight. It also will stick when extending the slide but always works after a restart or two.

Anyone else had this problem and if so how did you correct it? Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

By the way, it is to reach 109 deg. in the Gorge today.

Good morn Spook,
The first thing to trouble shooting is to understand the working mechanism of what you are trying to correct. If you would hook it up to shore power, giving it a reliable sores of power. All in all its pretty straight forward, simple operation. Then get under the slide that works properlary and familiar your self how it slides. then get under the slide that fails, look for, one side skip tooth alignment, lack of lubrication, something in teeth, motor train, motor, wiring, bent parts/tube, loose bolts on all the types of fasteners, bad switch/s, loose connection/s,If using DC power... bad battery, bad battery connections. Do you own a good amp meter? If it is a hydraulic/electric run, and in addition to all the above look for leaks, low fluid/reservoir, bad pump/s.

If your rig is a Wildcat, the breakers on the 12 v feeding the hydraulic pump are undersized and will reset after a bit. If you have not lubricated the slide seals with dry silicon in the last six months (or never) then do so. Always post what you own so folks have some idea what the problem might be. Rudy

I agree that lubricating the slide seals is a must. It will help a lot in reducing the resistance there. Not sure what type of mech you have, hydraulic or electric, but you also need to lubricate the rails underneath. Mine glide on teflon glides, and it helps to clean them real good when the slide is out, then lubricate them with a good silicone lubricant. That does wonders on my slides to make them go in and out well.

As one of the persons above said probably the breakers are too light and are overloading when extending/retracting. On my Cedar Creek it worked fine for 2 years than the slide seals were replaced and unit would not open or close. Called CC and factory service informed me that with the new seals the unit drew more than the 30 amps that the breakers were installed and that they suggested I replace them with 50 amp breakers. After changing I have had no further problems and I do lube the slides at least twice per year and the guides and operating systems at least once per year.

OK, I had the same type problem. Noticed the frame under the bed that holds the cylinder was bent. took it to my dealer. Long story short. They had excuse after excuse about getting a new frame. Sent wrong one, have to special order, the one the sent was bent. Not happy with dealer.

Finally called the factory which was Forest River. They sent me to Lippart components which makes the frames and slide components. They were very nice and said, "you bring it to us and we'll fix it in one day".

150 Miles to factory. When I got there they had me pull inside and disconnect. Another man comes over, takes one look and says, "you have a lot more problems than a slide, I'm going to call Forest River."

I said we're going to eat breakfast, you call when it's done. Within an hour they called and said, we need to fix this and that and this and that and it will be ready in February. (This was in November)WOW, this was suppose to be a one day fix.

Basically, they had to reinforce the whole front end and pin box area and actually put two new complete walls, inside and out, all 37'.

I could go in detail a lot more if you need information. Mine was not the only one. There were several in the shop at the same time my was for the same thing. Lippert components makes the frames for a lot of manufacturers besides Forest River. They had a problem that has since been corrected.

Forest River did take care of me and made me happy.
